Comments:

Race went well. No serious goals for this race, since it was only 2 weeks after the last marathon. Beautiful rails-to-trails trail the majority of the way. Great scenery. Going south, it was all downhill and downwind. Didn't feel like it htough, until we turned around back in to it. Miles 10-16 were all uphill and into the wind. My average mile pace dropped almost 1 min/mile. Once we got back to the Crazy Horse, it was about 5 miles of nice downhill, so the wind didn't bother me too much. It then leveled out about 21, though, and wind was howling directly into us the rest of the way in.
What would you do differently?:

nothing

Warm down:

walked 1/2 mile back to hotel

What limited your ability to perform faster:

headwinds

Event comments:

Nice smaller race. ~165 in the full, and ~1000 in the half marathon. The Black Hills are gorgeous. Nice place to spend a long weekndf with Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memporial and Custer State Park right there. I would highly recommend Rushmore and driving thru Custer, also on Needles Higway. I've never seen scenery like it anywhere else. It was beautiful.

I signed up for Ironman Frankfurt, next year July - and I am very excited about it. I originally planned to run my first Marathon in the middle of September, but am not sure if this is wise.

Once I can run again I'm thinking about keeping it in the training plan as a substitute for a few of my short runs. Has anyone else done this for their marathon training?

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

My first reaction to wearing a skirt while running was, “are you crazy?” I am no girly girl. I then tried one of the newest skirts from Nicole DeBoom’s TRIKS line and I can tell you I’m hooked.
