Subject: Are VO2 measurements with Polar good?
Hi guys,

I have had a Polar for quite some years and recently bought a new V800.

This gave me a chance to do the VO2 tests with both watches and see the differences.

I previously had done a VO2 test at the physiotherapist and it said 41

The first test with both watches gave a difference of 6 points. 36 versus 32

Thennnnnnnn....a couple of weeks later the Polar test on BOTH watches gave a lower result!!!!!!!!!

A couple of weeks later the VO2 went up a bit on 1 watch and stayed really very low on the other watch: 26!!!!

So the longer I train, the more my VO2 goes down!!!!

I'm a little bit disappointed cause the V800 is expensive. But with the V800 and the RS800 giving various results and also giving a VO2max from 36 to 26 in just 2 weeks is what I call weird. It should be the other way around, right?

Even if the test gave good results, doing fitness tests every couple weeks is a poor plan.

If I am not mistaken the test consists of HR measurement while relaxing for a few minutes.....not too hazardous to the health :-)

Oh, I thought they had done away with that "test." In that case, I would test as much as you want and then ignore the number.

Could you elaborate on the "test" you physiotherapist gave you? Can you describe what equipment was used and what you did? Is this a VO2 max figure you are referring to? As for the watches, they are only estimating and are not accurate. The VO2 max figures are not going to provide you with "data" to apply to the three sports.

None of the watches can really give you accurate measurements. I wouldn't put stock in either of those numbers.

In my opinion this should not be a reason to buy an expensive watch-- but there are much better training metrics you can track with these watches, so don't be disappointed about your purchase.

the only way to get your VO2 is to actually measure your oxygen uptake.
