Does anyone know when the invites usually come out? I had an AG win this year in one of my OLY races, so I am hoping that should qualify me for nationals.

They usually annouce the races in November, so maybe shortly after that?

The race needs to be USAT certified, if it takes this long that race might not have been certified or it has taken the RD forever to get the results in. Verify this, otherwise it might be until USAT officially announces the race in Milwaukee again. From my understanding it has been confirmed but not officially announced by USAT.

Also, when was the race? Cut-off for this year was the start of August, so not sure if they'll have an overlap in there.

It seems I remeber from somewhere that the USAT National Championship was actually a qualifier for itself in the following year? Do any of you know If that (still) correct or am I simply misremembering that? If so, in what percentage do you have to finish in order to qualify - is it 10% like most other races or is it 35% like the "special" regional qualifiers? If the first I am out by a mile, if the latter I am in by 3/4s of a mile - LOL.

Does the race have to be a standard "sprint" or "Olympic" distance? I participated in a "Quintathlon" this summer (S/B/R/B/R) which was USAT certified but the results have not shown up on the USAT site.

It was a USAT certified race and pretty sure it was in the beginning of August. Hopefully USAT is just dragging their feet.

Good question. From the qualifying webpage:

Qualifying distances include: Sprint, intermediate/Olympic, long (half Iron) and ultra (full Iron) distance on-road, and all off-road triathlons. You may qualify in any of these specified distances as long as the race is a USA Triathlon Sanctioned Event. However, each athlete will qualify to compete in the Olympic-Distance National Championship. Qualification can no longer be met in duathlon, aquathlon or aquabike categories.

So I f I had to bet I would say, "No, it won't qualify." But definitely send a note to USAT for clarification - interested to hear what you find out. Hopefully better than what I think, as if you are really interested the AGNC race is a lot of fun and a great experience.

I sent an email to USAT and we'll see what they say. It was a pretty small race, but it was be nice to know anyhow.

Qualification from Nats is top 33% or top 10 if your AG is small, whichever of these 2 options is greater.

It is a qualifying event. You had to swim, bike & run. Just because you had to bike & run 2x, does not disallow the event. The change in qualification events only eliminated qualification through events that were not tri's. You still completed a tri.

Just an update on this for anyone interested.

It took several e-mails to USAT to get a response, however here is what they sent to me:

"The quintathlon is not a discipline in which you can qualify for Nationals. Please see more information here on qualification requirements."

Some invitations are out.

You can still run a race during the first part of next year to qualify.  I don't know when the cutoff is as far as qualifying for 2015.  My son's invitation was for his race at last years national race.  I also don't know if races before that one count.

I got 3 invitations about a week or so ago, and then 1 more the next day. I would say they are working through/have worked through last season's races.

FWIW, for last year's very popular August AGNC I qualified in second week of June, signed up less than 30 days out

That's good to hear (as my late Summer and Fall race schedule evaporated with a move/new job/etc. - I know... call the WAAAMBULANCE!).

I'm surprised there were still spots open at that point, though.  Well, that at least gives me something to shoot for next year!

Thanks

Matt

They added about 4-500 spots last year. With worlds being in Chicago a month later this year I suspect it will be a late sellout again this year, tough that is purely speculation on my part.

The Aloha Quintathalon was a qualifying event, USAT sent out those qualification notifications on 11/27. Maybe whoever answered your e-mails thought it involved shotput, polevaulting, or something along those lines.
