X2 because it's automatic. I only swim and cycle and sometimes go to the gym. I only log cycling.

I've used a spreadsheet since 2002... I use specific columns for swim, bike and run so I can keep the totals separate.... I then break things down into monthly totals so i can compare say June of '14 against all the other Junes etc...

I have never used anything else with the exception of BT however I still liked my spreadsheet more so I stopped with BT....

Prior to '02 I was a competitive powerlifter and used spreadsheets to track the poundage lifted in each workout... I then would toss in a formula to convert the total pounds into tons and would plan my workouts for a particular training period around tonnage...

I also add comments/notes in adjacent cells to comment on the workout... Quality, total time, weather, anything noteworthy...

I like to convert my swim yardage into miles too... Strange I know...

You know you own your data here on BT. There is a feature that you can use to download all or part of your historical logs. (Some other sites make you pay for this feature)

BACK IT UP.

But, you can also trust that the good folks here at BT do have a disaster recovery plan for your data also. (In 8 years, I have never lost a single workout to the IT gremlins)

Is there a how to on this??? for a tech dummie?

I started on MapMy, then switched to strava so I could compare to the other members of my mentor group. I just manually entered the past two weeks onto BT. I'm going to start keeping full logs on BT and using Strava for GPS logging.

PS - I enjoy the fact that I'm following several Pros in my area and get to compare my efforts, routes and times to theirs.

At the top, on the right, go into Settings
Now, on the left, more to the bottom, go into Training Log Settings
You have a "Export Log Data" that will export a date range into a CSV file that can be opened with Excel

While I agree that the BT guys do the backups, there is always the error from the guy behing the keyboard. I wanted to load a plan into my planned data, loaded it to my actual and wiped out a ton of stuff. Ron was a prince and restored for me within a day or two, but I would not count on that. I was lucky.

My advice to the newbie would be, find a place to log your comments about the workout (BT is good for that) and find a place to archive your Garmin file. BT does not archive your Garmin file.

Try to be consistent in the way you name things so there are easy to find.

Whatever you choose, choose a system that allows to export the data so you can move it elsewhere if you want.

I log on Training Peaks, Strava and here, each has it's purpose. Google Calendar for my upcoming plan. Like others have mentioned, there is value to be found in each. Part of the fun is figuring out which one(s) work for you.

Way too many:

Garmin Connect:  by default
BT:  tracks everything since 2010, auto upload from GC though I manually load strength sessions and swims that go awry on the Fenix
TP:  auto upload from GC; use it mostly for tracking TSS
Trainer Road:  automatic during the workouts, I supplement this with my Garmin Edge 800, which then synchs to GC, which then synchs to...)
Strava:  social part and segment hunting, auto upload through GC
BT is the center of it all and the most accurate and detailed, plus I keep my planned work on there (which of course, feeds Google Calendar)

Whew!!!

I'm currently using Strava to log all of my workouts, but the new multisport view in Garmin Connect has me rethinking this approach. I'm hopeful that the engineers at Strava are already working on something similar. =)

I capture my workouts with the wahoo fitness app on my iPhone. It collect my BTLE data from HR strap and cadence/speed sensor. That app uploads to both Mapmyfitness and a Training Peaks. Then I import art singing peaks to BT site. I like the PR and social aspect of mapmyfitness. I like the workout analytics of TP. I like the long term logs and reporting of BT

here and cyclemeter. love that cyclemeter even tracks the weather, then auto uploads to whatever program i want, including strava, training peaks, fb, a blog, etc. - but I only use cyclemeter for outdoor workouts. anything indoors i only log on BT, I only need all info in one place and BT is it. super easy to compare data month to month, year to year, etc

It's crazy cool how apps/sites can be linked to share data.  As some posted earlier, it can set up so Garmin data automatically goes to Strava and BT and probably Training Peaks.

On a related but unrelated note, I actually have a long daisy-chain of apps that start with Garmin and the data moves on down the line to about 5-6 different apps and sites automagically.  It's quite handy!

Mine uploads automatically to Garmin Connect and Training Peaks.  I just jump into TP to add some notes about how I felt and make adjustments when necessary.  It also links automatically to MyFitnessPal, but I don't always bother adjusting the calories burned there (IMO, like most sites and apps, it tends to over-estimate caloric burn.)
