great race report Pilgrim - you make it seem so easy! gives hope to this IM-in-training that I may actually be able to do it (also signed up for IMAZ)! loved your theme song, perfect for just about any swim start! last but certainly not least, good race day reminder... have fun, thank the volunteers, and remember to look up from the HR monitor, bike computer, and ground from time to time to check out the scenery and enjoy the race!

Did anyone else have a chance to ride, run or swim the SOMA course? i swam in Tempe Towne Lake over the weekend, got a few strange looks as I was only one out of a few people with a full wetsuit on, the other 80 or so only wore swim/tri suits, water temp was 78 degrees, but i wanted to do a practice swim with the wetsuit since I'll be wearing it for SOMA. Nice swim, it wasn't too warm and although part of the course has you swimming toward the sun, navigation wasn't as difficult as I expected. I did 1 loop of the run and bike course which are relatively flat. While 3 loops on the bike & 2 loops on the run could get a bit tedious, seeing friends & family and knowing what to expect each time around will keep it interesting. the only real challenge I see is the wind & heat. I hear the temps drop after the 15th of Oct. but still could get pretty warm and windy on the bike & run. Got news is, when there's headwinds it means you fly coming the opposite direction with the tailwinds, yippee! Tempe is a great city, and I was told that the SOMA races have great support, are well managed, and a lot of fun! Should be a good time for all! See you at SOMA!

Thanks for all the info! We will all just have to keep our fingers crossed that the weather doesn't try to kill us out there.

Now on to the more important things- when are we all going to meet?! I'm not getting in till saturday morning, I think, but is everyone still interested in a carbo-loading dinner get together Saturday night? I know I am!

I'm no fan of the taper either but it really does pay off. I always end up feeling like a rickety old man, I notice every little muscle twitch and tendon pop. I hear this is a common reaction when tapering off a heavy training shcedule. I also felt like crud the day before the Redman but the morning of the race I felt fantastic.

So...get in a good taper and trust that on race day you will feel great.

Just so everyone knows, I should be easy to spot...I'll be the white guy wearing a black neoprene suit at the begining of the swim.

Actually, if you do happen to see anyone wearing New Mexico Outlaws gear, especially someone who looks exactly like my picture on these posts, just ask for Myles and you should find me. I'd like to meet up with folks at the awards cerimony but think i'm committed for the pre-race meal.

And as for comments on my blog from Lobo and Jazz...I swear i've never ridden more than 1015 miles in a single month, really!

Can't wait to meet yall1

I was hoping they would tap it at noon. Knowing Guinness is at the finish line helps me run faster.

I'm #760. 14 years old- isn't there some age minimum! That's nuts.

Pilgrim, you are an animal.

I'd love to go to the post-race party, we'll see if I'm still standing!

Does anyone want to meet up at a resturaunt in Tempe Sat. night for carbo-loading- any suggestions?

# 958 here Tempe Native

Rode the course this weekend!! I hope you are all fast turners. Seemed like every mile you had a turn of somekind inlcuding U-turns. There is one nice stretch of about 5 miles maybe.

The swim should be nice. Had a race this weekend same spot, water temp was awesome with a wetsuit. No current and no waves, works for this guy.

I can't wait for the race, I hope this week doesn't drag from anticipation and taper.

Are all you getting together on Saturday, we can all trade war stories.

Not what I wanted to hear about the bike course. I'm a big chicken with turns and take my time on them.

Swim sounds great. I'm getting really anxious and ready to get on the plane.

Taper week is rough for me. I don't see the point of getting in the pool for 10 min. that's not even worth getting wet!!

How is everyone else doing??
