REVOLUTION3 Triathlon
58F / 14C
Precipitation
Total Time = 2h 43m 2s
Overall Rank = 73/195
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 7/14
Pre-race routine:

Hang out at Fall For Greenville the night before. Didn't really eat anything "healthy" per say. Chicken pita, Hamburger sliders, hibachi steak, and beer. Wake up at 4:30 in the morning, ate banana and yogurt.
Event warmup:

Nothing. Maybe some foot shuffle to keep myself warm in the rain. Tried to inflate a tire and couldn't work the pump. Ended up with leaky rear tube at the stem. Had bike mechanic change my tube before they closed T1. Raining a lot before the start and used restroom in lieu of swim warmup.
Swim
  • 31m 22s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

Poor navigation. Trying to stay away from hitting swimmers turned into me being 50 yards outside course pretty much the entire loop. Lost lots of time.
What would you do differently?:

Stay close to the pack.
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

Ran past people trying to get into their clip less pedals. Was OK mounting the bike. Was pretty clumsy getting into shoes though.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 21m 59s
  • 40 kms
  • 29.27 km/hr
Comments:

Dropped a chain when shifting up hill. Had to get off bike and put the chain back on the chain ring. Rained hard on the section with fast descent. Had to bleed some speed to avoid crash.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Better shifting?
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

Went well, except I had to get on the other side of the bike rack to get stuff I needed. Could've shaved some seconds by trying to squeeze in between the bikes to get my stuff.

Socks and shoes were drenched in the rain. :(
Run
  • 46m 14s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 37s  min/km
Comments:

Strongest leg of the whole race. Was pretty comfortable, except I had to use a port-a-potty once to urinate.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate the chicken, green beans, potato salad, and coleslaw they had after the race. Had some grapes too. Walked around after eating. Didn't stretch my legs until I got my bike back into my car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Biking 45 miles and running 9 miles day before this race might have limited my speed. Wouldn't have skipped my training for my "A" race though.

Event comments:

Great race and close to home. Can't beat that combination. I like the food selection after the race. Very easy to find your finish time after the race. Pretty nifty.

This is an article about attending my first triathlon (as a spectator - I had never entertained the possibility of actually participating one before!), and how inspiring and motivating I found it.
