If you are in the water for a swim start (referring to IMCoz) are you treading water for several minutes? If so, is this wearing you out or is it really no big deal? Just wondering what to expect...

Yes, you will be treading water for several minutes.  No biggie when wearing a wetsuit but that's not an option at Cozumel so find something to hang on to if you can.

You should not worry about ten minutes of warm up in saltwater. it won't tire you out.

The start used to be in the water and you could tread water or wait on the dock and jump in at the last minute, or hold onto the dolphin cage until the cannon. I saw people doing all three. As noted, it is a salt water swim so treading was no big deal (I am not a strong swimmer). That said, the course is different this year after the last minute changes in 2013. As noted on the website it is now point to point with "only one mass start for all the age group (waist deep)". That should allay any fears about tiring out while treading water.
Relax about this swim. Barring crappy weather the swim is incredible - clear/clean so you almost never need to lift your head to sight.

Thanks! I did read that, too, but then thought they had changed it! Awesome. Appreciate the feedback!

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

Does it matter how fast you go? Does it matter if you win? No. It only matters that you tri your best and smile when you cross the finish line.
