Subject: Reasonable first season schedule?
I'm trying to figure out a realistic schedule of events for my first season completing Tri's, and wanted to get some feedback. Does the schedule below look about right? Do any of you have comments about any of the particular events, such as good for a beginner or best to be avoided, etc? Any feedback would be more than welcome!

3/7/15 - Azalea Sprint – Wilmington
5/3/15 – White Lake Spring Sprint
6/13/15 – Tri Latta Sprint – Huntersville
8/9/15 - Lake Logan Sprint (maybe International distance - still unsure about that one)
9/12/15 – White Lake Fall International
10/3/15 - Pinehurst International 2015

I don't see any issues with it right off the bat.
Are you comfortable in open water? I think all of those races are open water swims with the exception of the Azalea sprint.
The white lake sprint is a great race. Nice swim, flat bike and flat run. Looks to be a month later than usual this year, so that should help the water temp. Has been pretty cold the past couple of years.
I would say do what you are comfortable with. If its your first season, see how your training goes and sign up for races that fit with where you think you are physically/mentally. Don't want to burn out your first year at it.

Looks reasonable.  You're not racing every weekend (some do) or have races back-to-back.

Consider identifying which of those races is your "most important" race of the year and focus your training on that day.  Accept that the other races become secondary to that "A" race so you're not trying to hold "peak fitness" for 5 months.

As others have said, your sched looks fine. Glad to see you're starting off with sprints (and not half irons!). There's a lot to learn in your first few races and it'll be much less stressful at the shorter distances, IMO.

Azalea is a pool swim, right? Just like wthore mentioned, make sure you take a dip in a lake before any of the open water swims, as they're a bit different.

If you get a chance, read some of the race reports for those races. They'll give you insight and should help you arrive a little better prepared.

Good luck and have fun!

Yeah, Azaela is a pool swim. I'll definitely look to get some open water swimming in before any of the future events. I have a Y membership so I can head to the Lake Norman Y if nothing else. Any other suggestions for open water swims near Salisbury/Charlotte?

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. It helps a rookie when I can get some confirmation that I'm on a decent track.

I'm in Salisbury, and really haven't found a lot around here that I'm wild about. Plus the wife loves visiting the east coast beaches so we can incorporate some weekend getaways to our favorite spots with a couple of these events.

If you develop a strategy for the off-season, you can go into the next season stronger than you ended the past season.
