Are there triathletes that compete in St. Anthony's without a wetsuit?
What is the average water temperature for St. Anthony's in late April?

The average water temperature in April will usually be in the low 70's, but it can be dependent on the weather, particularly in shallow water.

Personally, I'd plan on wearing a wetsuit, but I know some folks who are comfortable swimming in water that temperature.  Kinda depends on what you're used to..

Yes there will be people there without a wetsuit. In fact the year I did it - those were the smart people. The start was delayed and it was super super super warm already when we swam. I definitely came close to overheating during the swim.

St. Anthony's is one of those races that is almost always wet suit legal but barely. If you wear a wetsuit I would recommend sleeveless. Everybody is different but if you might overheat like me you could be better off without one.

Doug was one of the few swimming coaches who really appreciated how important swimming technique is and would spend as much or more time with his athletes making sure they got it right.

I'm doing my first tri Saturday. It starts at 7 AM and the forecast is calling for a high of 82 (air temp). Do I need to rush out and get a wetsuit?

The triathletes really inspired me. I watched them in awe as childlike thoughts went through my head like, "I want to do that!" But then reality set in. “Who are you kidding?
