Subject: Cut off Times Question

I have searched for an answer to my question on the site and could not find one. Hope someone can help me..

If the cutoff time for a swim is 30 minutes - Does that mean I have just 30 mins to complete the swim. If I don't am i DNF'd? OR is this 30 minutes from the last wave start that I have to finish?

i am doing my first HITS triathlon and have not participated in ones that have cut offs. I am a bit worried about my swim time and am confused as to what a 30 minute cut off time would refer to.

Thanks for any clarification.

Tara

The website is a big vague.  It says the cutoff is 7:30 (maximum time 30 minutes).  So I can only assume the race starts at 7am but is that the first wave or last wave?  Best thing to do would be to contact them to be sure.

Thanks fro the info.= That is exactly what I did. They will not pull anyone off the course since the Olympic will be in progress.

I just took a quick look at the results from some of the HITS sprint races.  It looks like their sprint cutoff times are more guidelines than hard cutoffs.  The results show folks exceeding both posted swim and overall cutoffs.  If they're starting the sprint race first, then I wouldn't think it would be a big deal at all.

Good luck with your race.

Generally the cut off time refers to the time that they need people to be out of the water. If there are multiple waves, you will have 30 minutes from the last wave. If they planned to have a break between the start of the sprint/olympic races, they usually won't pull you off the course if you are outside of the window, depends how far you've made it.

Two reasons for a cutoff time. 1) permits require that the venue open to the public or 2) safety concerns for staffing that area.

For the swim, they need to make sure that the boating staff is able to respond to the needs of the swimmers.

The Doctor says a minimum of eight weeks before I'm back in the pool. I'm training for a HIM and wondering how quickly I can start running and what the recovery will be like.
