Hi,

I'm Daniel from the UK.

I competed in my first tri in 2013 (sprint) and 2014 have consistently trained with no events apart from eTape du Tour bike ride.
I have booked in a half Iron distance for 2015 July and signed up here for some motivation / training programs. I'm fine with the cycle and swim, but do suffer from shin splints from the run. Seen a physio and a running coach, but still suffer. I need to work at this and very open to hearing any advice.

Question to all the more established athletes. Being new to this distance, do I put work towards times that I am confident I can hit and enter these in the training plan, or do I try and be more ambitious?

Welcome to BT!

I am not certain of what you are asking, and do not feel terribly qualified to answer anyway

If you are asking if you should input current ability levels (vs what you hope to be able to achieve at the event ) into the training plan, then it is always what you are currently able to do. The plan will build from there. If, during the build up, you find that you are progressing at a faster pace, then adjustments can always be made. Conservative is better than aggressive for most, in order to reduce chance of injury.

For training questions, I suggest posting it in the general training forum - much more traffic there, and some very knowledegable folks who freely offer suggestions.

Best of luck with the training.
