If it was a female, I would suggest Veeta, short for Velveeta.

. Going with the "Lab" theme like Beaker, might I put forth Cruce (Crucible).

Butterscotch? Also met a Marvin tonight--very cute black lab puppy, and the name seemed to fit. I think sometimes you have to know the animal for a bit before you know what sounds/feels right.

I have a cat from an animal rescue program here and they name the litters of kittens by theme--Tomoko's a petite, feisty little female with huge eyes and the name seems to fit (apparently it's a female anime character), but have to laugh about her brothers Sushi and Ramen. I'd have changed their names!

My two cats I lost to cancer this year were Zen and Sushi. Their names fit them perfectly.

Sorry to hear about your kitties. I'm sure that some cats fit those names. It just seemed inadvisable in a country where cat (and dog) can be a menu item, and one's pet is appetizer size!

My previous Black Lab (1995 - 2009) was named Fletcher from the Chevy Chase movie. My previous German Short Haired Pointer (1996 - 2011) was named Bailey....can't remember why we chose it.

My current 5 year old Black Lab is named Griffin after the symbol on the seal of Purdue University.

I also like Ripley for a dog name, but my neighbors "borrowed" it for their Brittany Spaniel.

My husband has already decided that if we get a dog (or dogs) he gets to name one of them Disco which I'm more than happy with after his previous naming attempts for cats which included the oh-so-creative names "Kitten" and "Boy Cat".

Being Canadian I've known a number of yellow labs named Molson!

Oh, so sweet. Pick a name you won't get sick of saying (yelling) a lot :-) You'll be saying it tons during the first year or two. Having had a yellow lab, and a Golden, they are super fun and super "active" those first few years. Can be a challenge. You will need to "baby proof" your house. Enjoy!

Some friends of ours had a yellow lab and his name was Hammer...

He was 120-ish pounds and fit his name well....

x2 on this. Our lab is super sweet but also super needy. He will randomly get a kitchen tower and know he is getting in trouble just to get attention. Thankfully he's past the shoe chewing stage
