For all of you proficient in interpreting the tide charts, what is your opinion regarding how strong the tide will be for the Beach 2 Battleship on October 17, 2015?

From what I've read on other forums, the tides are supposed to be just as fast as they were this year.

In the words of the B2B race director, "Don't brag about this swim."

looks like low tide will be 7am so most probably pretty slack for the start of the full at 7:30am but then increasing for the 2nd bit of swim. By 8:30 and the start of the HIM it should be raging once again.

There will be help for the full people, especially the slower swimmers and everyone in the HIM should have to pay extra in the registration fee for getting a free ticket to the 6 Flags Wild Water Park.

Just asking. Really considering the Half next year. The bike and the run don't scare me but a 1.2 mile swim, anywhere, scares me a lot.

Pretty terrified but I think I could do it with several months training and a little help from my friends on BT.

Don't worry about it much. The swim is wetsuit mandatory. I guarantee you'll be more buoyant than a slab of concrete.

as d00d said. Don't worry.

With the expected tidal push you will literally be able to make the time cut off with taking 1 or 2 strokes every 3min.

looking at the tide chart it will be a huge help in the HIM. 1 or 2 strokes every now and again might be a touch exaggerated but not by much. It will be one of the easiest HIM swims you can find anywhere anywhere. If you are comfy with bike and run the swim is most definitely not something that should stop you trying this race.

The RD usually makes the joke that a floating bag of Doritos could make the cutoff.

I just watched the 20 min. video for 2014 and saw where he said that.... not sure if I can beat a floating bag of Doritos. Ok, I'm in.

Just reserved my room at Hilton Riverside.

Now if I can just keep from swallowing half the river and puking I'll be ok....lol.

Swim is my worst event, followed closely by bike and run

The tide was great this year. It was my first Half and my swim time was the best I have ever posted. If you are not a strong swimmer this is a VERY good race to choose.

Agreed with all that has been said here. I did the B2B half for the first three years. First year was a slack tide, and I swam 41 minutes. Second year was a raging inbound tide and I swam 27 minutes. It was CRAZY how fast you could swim. Wetsuit is a big help, too. Third year was slack again, and I swam 37.

Low tide for race day 2015 is forecast for 4:33 am, with high tide at 10:55, so if you're in the half, then you ought to hit the timing for close to the max benefit.

The swim isn't the concern at this race. It's the potential for wind, which will tear your legs off during the bike stage. It can be some seriously teeth-clenched misery if you catch a head wind of any stoutness. The run course is pretty much dead flat, but not very scenic except for the loop through the park. This is unfortunate, given what a pretty city Wilmington is. But overall, a very well organized race.
