Elite 4344 | Subject: Anyone here have BPPV BPPV is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. It is caused by calcium crystals coming loose from the walls of the inner ear canals and sloshing around in the cilli in the bottom of the canal causing dizziness. It happened to me on a ride on Saturday. I had a bummer of a day in the ER. I wrote it up on my blog if you are interested in the long version The question for the forum is whether or not anyone here has experienced BPPV and how did it turn out over time. I am still in the early stages. My dizziness is better but I still need something to hold onto to walk.

There are some good videos on youtube for the instructions. The first couple times will probably worsen the dizziness temporarily but the more its done it usually subsides. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llvUbxEoadQ |

Elite 4344 | Subject: RE: Anyone here have BPPV Yes. The ER doctor tried to do the Epley maneuver on me. It did not help. I am scheduled for a visit to a physical therapist. I am sure they will try to identify which ear and which canal is involved and try move my canaliths to the posterior more successfully. I got the impression that the ER doctor had knowledge of but not experience with the procedure. I am hopeful of some improvement with the physical therapist's treatment. I have, of course, been googling incessantly since the onset of symptoms. I shall try not to tell the therapist how to do it. Tee hee.TW Edited by tech_geezer 2014-12-15 12:31 PM |

Lie down. Turn onto either side. Does one side cause the symptoms to seem more obvious and give that "falling" sensation? That's the side that is affected unless there is bilateral involvement. |

Elite 4344 | Subject: RE: Anyone here have BPPV Originally posted by mndymond I won't try any procedures on my own just yet. I see my PCP in an hour and the PT tomorrow. My symptoms are better today on their own, meaning I can walk without throwing up. I am still dizzy and feel that holding onto things is necessary for balance. But this is better. I have AntiVert but haven't used it because the nausea has gone away. Thanks for the help. I think your advice is correct and will hold onto it.TWOriginally posted by tech_geezerYes. This sounds very new age - exercises to do when your crystals are out of alignment! Too bad the doctor didn't wear yoga clothes and dress this up with soft lighting, candles, yoga music etc. OP, on a more serious note - good to hear that you are doing better. With him, they did procedures in the office and then gave him some exercises to do on his own. The only reason he had the problem a second time was because of a fall. I'm hoping and thinking you'll be better ASAP! |

Elite 4344 | Subject: RE: Anyone here have BPPV Thanks for the reassurance. I am expecting the same physical therapy and home treatment routine based on what I have read. I am still waiting on the PT to call to set up the appointment. I am hopeful it turns out well.
