Okay, I'm dying here - in a good way!!
A friend just stopped over and knows I'm going out of my brain right now and dropped off this.......
I am saving it for after my race. I am feeling the love and support of my friends. It is hard to give one of these up - makes me think of that Coke commercial. I went the other day to get some and...gasp...they were out..

YAY bike p0rn Thor and Jenn! And yay beer p0rn!

(pst, don't tell anyone, I got a few (ok, 6) 4 packs for my birthday a couple weeks back. I've pretty much been drinking one a day!)

Thor - thanks for sharing that Iron Cowboy site! The MA stop, he's doing the swim in the lake in Worcester I used to live on; then running the Boston Marathon route!!! There aren't full details on where/when the last 5k for that stop is happening, but I'm gonna try and make it. Awesome!!!

Looking good Jenn!

The new bike I've been drooling over that is on the horizon is the same color scheme, not sure if I wanna roll that color tape yet, but it is definitely an eye catcher. My sunglasses and 910xt match it

Thor, your father's day race sounds awesome. :-)

Gretchen, I just bought a Giant Thrive Comax 1. An hour ago. :-) It won't be here for a week but I'm psyched! In going through the Giant inventory I was happy with it as a brand. Components and prices seemed very fair, particularly compared with others I've been looking at.

I test rode a couple of bikes including another Giant road bike and a Scott. Although these traditional frames weren't as awful as some of the others I've tried...more upright...my gut just keeps telling me I have to stick with the flat bar, so I ordered the above. I'm just not comfortable in the position of the more traditional handlebars and I really am not confident I could get there with my vision loss. I went a number of miles on the traditional frame today...had I not been able to order the carbon flat bar bike (many brands are sold out) then I probably would have rented one that I rode today for a few weeks and determined if I could adjust...but since the one I want was available, I went for it. That's where free beer at a bike store gets you. (just kidding, no beer today while making the purchase, I just finally found a good bike geek to help me). :-)

Thor - have fun!
Gretchen- Welcome back!
Sandi- that paddle boarding sounds amazing!
Justin- I wish I got commision- really I just love the product. Today I did bike to work and it enabled me to pick up my daughter from daycare and let her join in on the bike to work fun!

So today I rode in 4 miles and rode home 8 with a stop at daycare. I really enjoyed it and plan to try it more.

Two weeks ago I had an Xterra- it was a blast. I was totally under trained due to injuries and weather- but had fun anyway. I'm not sure what's up with the old chicks because I was last in my age group even though I was in the top half of women!

Well I need to get to bed since I have my running group in the morning.

211 & 212/400 this morning. I started my Oly training plan this morning (Oly is Sept 12), so run days back to back. 2.5mi this morning, followed by a session in the weight room at the gym. I love lifting weights. I always feel like superwoman when I'm done. I don't know why I don't do it more! Provided I get my work done today, this afternoon I'm off to the LBS to test ride bikes!! Excited!!!

Last night I was talking to my wife about my general funk since I returned from Egypt and how I didn't feel like I was getting good training in. As she tends to do, she listened carefully, thought for a second, and then put it all in perspective for me. She asked me how many workouts I had gotten in since I got back. Quickly, I counted. Six. I had done six workouts in seven days. Then she asked if they were quality workouts. Yes, they include my longest ride to date and several solid runs. Six quality workouts in a week full of travel, stress, and jet lag. Yep--she is consistently able to prove to me I'm being an idiot (in the most loving way possible!).

Jenn - have fun in your race!!! (at the end of the day, this why we are here for, right?)
Sandi - what is a flat bar bike? I am lost here, love to see pictures
Gretchen - welcome back! I do travel a lot and fully understand your feeling, trying to catch up work outs when you are not fully recovered from flying; hope you get back to those great feelings soon.

I read a book about a guy who did 1 ironman per week in a year (while working), but this is impressive!!!

Nice bike Gretchen!

I've always been a fan of white bikes, think they look really clean.

Thunderstorms again today, so it looks like I'm gonna be on the trainer for the second time this week :/

I did log my longest run day so far, and it was almost consistent running for 8 miles! I did finally notice a bad case of cardiac creep, my pace and perceived effort was staying the same, but my heart rate just wouldn't stay down.

Hope everyone has a good Friday, don't drink too much!

Devon - I was having the same issue with the HR, even on runs half that distance. Not sure I did the right thing, but I just stopped focusing on HR during runs and instead focused on the perceived effort associated with the workout. So far it's worked out.

Devon, that happened to me this afternoon - when for an easy run (7k 40 min) but temperature is over 100ºF so just stopped looking at HR, but the feeling was baaaad..... need to run either early morning or very late at night.

Double workout day again, bike (22 mi) followed by swim (1850 yds). New bike is awesome!! I understand why adults would like to ride bikes now. With my old bike I never really could.

That was the weird thing though, I was trying to keep it in zone 2-3, watch was reading zone 5, I didn't feel like I was in z5 at all. I was actually feeling pretty great.

In other news, just prepped food for a few days, if I don't hit race weight by November eating like this something is wrong 0.o

Yea Sandi! I'm trilled you found a bike that will work for you!

Thank god that my local bike shop doesn't serve free beer. I would of had to declare bankruptcy years ago Be sure to post some bike porn when you pick it up!

Hi All - A quick wrap up on what I've been up to the last two weeks.... Wrapped up the hardest year of my career making sure to give each day my all despite not being hired back for next tear. Spent the week after the last day of school recovering and applying for teaching jobs... Haven't heard anything. I also had a PT appointment where I received some tough advice from my coach... I'm 50 pounds over weight and my injuries (recently pulled my right quad at a wiffle ball tourney (who the hell does that!?!) are are direct result of my extra baggage. Finally, I packed up the family and travelled from MA to Michigan and have settled into the family's cottage for a month long stay.

Yesterday I got in a good run and some aqua jogging and today went out for a short ride up two of the hills that made up a big part of my IM training last year. It was nice to ride them again. They suck to go up but the elevation gain (+1250 for a 20 mile ride) will help me prep for my HIM (Challenge Maine has an elevation gain of 720). Tomorrow, I'm hoping to rack up a 50 mile ride - my longest of the season.

Proust!

Done.
1.2 swim 41:34 - was hoping for a bit better
56 mile very hilly bike 3:22:56 I'll take it.
t1 was super slow on purpose but didn't mean for it to be so slow at 2:59. But it was a very long run through T1 to my bike.
I'll do a report in a few days - but I survived! LOL

Great job, Jenn! Can't wait to hear more about the race.

David...been thinking about this...can you now receive beer via mail? I didn't see if you got anyone on the weight loss challenge with you. BUT, if you need motivation....set a goal. If you meet it by end of July, I send you beer. If you meet another by end of August, I send more beer.

Planned on doing a swim/bike brick today, but woke up exhausted. I think I'll switch my day off. It's so damn hot here this week that running is tough, I'll have to be up before 6 to do anything.

Devon....I don't know what it is about HR, but I am not capable of running within ANY version of my HR zones. Never have been. I just go off of perceived effort. There is clearly a HR (WELL above any calculated zone) that is too high for me, and I work to avoid that.
