The hard part is finding man and women. Germany is easy, they dont really have a woman.

UK has Tim Don and Joe Skipper with Rachel Joyce and Leada Cave
Canada has Bret McMahon who I think will do really well and Angela Naeth but also Jeff symonds, Lional and Heather Wurtele.
Australia has Tim Van Berkel and Luke McEnzie and of course Rinny.

I forgot about Skipper for the UK.  Like you said, Germany is really strong for the men, and Switzerland really strong for the women - but little for the other gender.

I think I'm gonna throw Germany in the mix -- they had a 6th place women's finish last year.  I'll go with:

Canada

UK

Germany

Going to have to go beyond the top 10 to figure out the three most "dominant" countries at Kona this year!  Looks like it ranks as follows:

US -- 3rd male, 5th female -- 8

UK -- 11th male, 2nd female -- 13

Germany -- 1st male, 21st female -- 22

I got second and third right  Totally failed on picking my own country for the top slot....hah!

Germans are dominant in the male race with four of the top 10; likewise, UK is pretty dominant in the female race with three in the top 10, and two each from the US and Denmark.  With the exception of Ryf crushing it, the race really did not play out at all like I had predicted.  It was a lot of fun to watch though.

No Cdn females fininshed...

Cdn Jeff Symonds pedaled the last 30 miles with 1 leg!!  Crank broke/came apart, whatever - it's insane that he kept going.  And then ran a 2:50 marathon.

You guys have any off-season stuff coming up?  I'm doing the rock & roll half marathon in Las Vegas next month just for fun.  Well, and to celebrate a friend's birthday.  Should be a good weekend.

Just some fun CX races and a 10k in a couple of weeks.

I've got a friend local to me that's going to do the HM in Vegas too.  It sounds like fun!

I just finished my "off season" -- not by choice, but due to injury.  I'm racing in Pucon, Chile in January.  I just started running again this week -- finally, after nearly three full months, my stress fracture is healed and I'm running pain-free!

I know Marc is racing Miami 70.3 this weekend....I was supposed to be racing too, but it just didn't work out.

I've also got some CX racing starting next Saturday.  Other than that though just trying to hopefully lose some weight, or at least not put any on, and start working on FTP stuff shortly.  And as I type this, my coworker just put two bags of cookies on the snack table right across from me.  So evil.

Anyone using the new GC version 3.2?
(*Just came out in August 2015)

It apparently now converts to a different type of file format and allows Run and Swim metrics, just like Bike metrics, to plot critical velocity for all sports.
Faster too, with a change to a cache system. Also added several different Power/Duration models added.

Sounds pretty cool.

Yup, pretty neat stuff.  I only recently tried loading some runs into it.  I'm not quite sure how to handles those yet but at least its an option.

Rusty and Dale, good to see you back

I figured I'd give sign of life. I did Miami 70.3. It was OK.

Expectations were quite high because I had one of my fasters races (not best) ever there in 2013 with a 4h44. So when I went 5h02 I was kind of disappointed.

But I swam about 2min faster this year. I rode identical watts for 7 minutes slower. I ran about 12min slower. That said the course was longer than 2013 and much much hotter. Raelert ran 9% slower this year than last year.

I am a little pissed that if I was a minute better (which was entirely possible) I could have ran myself into 3rd. I ended up in 5th. When I saw 5h was off the table I did back off to avoid any possibility of cramping. I had no idea I was so close to #4 and #3

Lots of Jelly fish on the swim. We were 4 guys, I was the only one not stung. Wind was brutal, 40km/h going out, 29 coming back. Run was suffocating. For Arend and Chris, who did it in 2013, on the other side of the bridge we didn't run on jungle island. We ran through a crappy industrial area with no air. It was suffocating. Aid stations were awful. You had to stop, go to the table and ask for stuff. 2 stations had no water at one point. Many stations had no ice.

So I'll take it during a year trying to get back into it. It does give hope for 2016. Some of the issues won't go away, but are manageable.

Sounds brutal in the heat Marc!  I'm pretty sure I won't be doing that race again.

What made you decide to go back?

- Friends wanted to do it.
- Choice in the fall is pretty limited and I did want to go into the off season with some data to build off.
- I needed to see if some issues were resolved.

I "think/hope/pray" the adductor issues are gone.
I may have found a nutrition solution with Generation UCAN.

Your race report almost (not really!) makes me glad I was injured and couldn't race

Any thoughts on why identical watts resulted in seven minutes slower on the bike?  Was the wind more favorable two years ago versus straight headwind/tailwind?  I suspect you're more aero this year, so very curious!

if by "snack table" you mean "Starbucks" well then yes - we do! But seriously, if I was sitting next to a snack table at work I wouldn't stand a chance....And while we are at it, what is with those colleagues at work that don't want to take the last piece of whatever it might be in the break room? You know the ones that cut the half of the half of the half of the half of the half of the last bagel in half. Just eat the whole thing already!

And sorry to be so AWOL - I just haven't been much of a triathlete lately. Never could really get healed up after my crash. Instead of focusing on getting well like I should have I just kept trying to get race ready instead (i.e.: "compensating"), and that just led to cascading injuries: elbow, shoulder, and knee. So after nationals I just pulled the plug. Shoulder is not 100%, but it is going in the right direction, knee is "meh" but I am able to run a little bit on it now, and just got PRP injections (YOWCH!) in the elbow yesterday afternoon. So my status currently is "Mending." Myself, JT, and a whole bunch of other friends got into Alcatraz this year, so thinking about that. Not too worried about the cost increase as entry would be the least expensive part of the trip for us, but still a little tough just on principle. If we actually do enter I am afraid I might get kicked off slowtwitch - heh.

Wind conditions two years ago were just about perfect.  My out and back splits were only different by about 20 seconds.  It was never a head wind or tail wind, just some sort of cross wind and pretty low.

Marc - you make Miami seem down-right "fun." Good to hear you are on top of your issues - that must feel good going into the winter, yes? Stinks about being so close to the podium - but from the sounds of your goals for the race you were smart to execute your plan. I am sure that would have gone out the window had you known how close you were. The one time I swam with jelly fish was at the New York Olympic of all places. They had a wind blowing in and brought them up the river. I remember feeling a weird stinging all over almost from the get-go, but I just wrote it off as a side effect of swimming in the Hudson - ha-ha! I only realized what was going on when one wrapped solidly around my face. My wave went off right after the pros, so we got the worst of it - by the time the later age groupers went off they were just swimming through jelly fish pieces. I looked like a tomato when I came out of the water, but the stinging wore off pretty quickly. Didn't even have to pee on myself.
