Very uncomfortable. Have no problem riding aero for hours on end on the road. This has been my experience also. Same here Same here. I have a dedicated road bike that sits on the trainer 24/7/365. I can't ride for five minutes in aero on a trainer yet I can ride for five hours straight in aero during an IM race. So for those of you who have 2 bike, 1 specifically for the trainer, what do you do about power? Do you have 2 meters? Right now I have my Tri bike which gets 99% of all my riding on and off the trainer, it was a stages PM on it. I have an old road bike that I've thought about throwing on the trainer since I also don't like riding aero inside but then I wouldn't be able to train with the PM. So how do you handle that situation? Of course the obvious is buy another PM.. but is there another way? My trainer is a standard KK, I don't have/use any of the training vids or computer things that hook up to some of the more advanced trainers. Justin |

Extreme Veteran 1986 Cypress, TX | Subject: RE: Aero postion on indoor trainer 2 bikes??? I have three! How dare you! My tri bike has a Quarq power meter. My two road bikes do not have a power meter but my trainer is a Wahoo KICKR so I get power numbers from the KICKR. Can you put the Stages on the old road bike and just swap around when necessary? |

SO SO SORRY!!!! I meant 3 bikes!!! I'm not sure I could get my stages on the old bike, or if I really want too... That would mean buying a $450 ultegra crankset for a $150 bike. I like the old bike, but not that much. I'm kind of toying with the idea of a CX bike that I could do double duty as a group ride bike, and possibly start commuting to work some days if I feel brave enough to fight the traffic!! If I did that, I might just get one with a ultegra setup so I can swap the PM out. It's always something........ Justin |

Master 2912 ...at home in The ATL | Subject: RE: Aero postion on indoor trainer Used to have one power meter (quarq) and it was an easy <2 minute swap between the bikes as they had the same bottom bracket. With my current TT bike I wanted to go with shorter cranks and a particular crankset that (at the time) didn't work with quarry, so I got another power meter (vectors). So yes, two power meters. I also have two trainers, a KK rock & roll and a Kickr. I use the kickr when erg mode workouts are specified in the plan, the R&R for everything else: it has the optional big flywheel and I like the feel of it a little better, and it is a little more comfortable on the longer stuff as it moves around just a little underneath you. That said, your least expensive option would actually be to use virtual power (all you would need is an ant+ speed sensor, an ant+ usb stick, and your current trainer, along with software like Maximum Trainer (free) or TrainerRoad (paid subscription). |

Extreme Veteran 1332 | Subject: RE: Aero postion on indoor trainer I use trainer road with it's virtual power estimate. Even when you have the same power meter, what you'll be able to sustain inside and out will be slightly different, so it's important to know that distinction anyways, so separating my power indoors isn't a big deal. I learn a lot about myself as far as heart rate, perceived effort goes inside, do time trialing outside, and then use the separate numbers, one for training on the trainer, one for training outside and racing. |
