Subject: Wetsuit for NC races!
Question for my friends in NC - I am in my third season and decided to get crazy and do 70.3 in Raleigh this year. In my training I am planning to do the Jones Racing Okympic distance in Stokesdale April 11th. I'm thinking about investing in a wetsuit and I am torn over sleeves or no sleeves. I have done all of my races prior to this in the summer with no wetsuit at all. Looking at race schedules I think that in order to do longer races in the early spring in the future it makes sense to buy one. If you were just going to have one wetsuit which would you purchase?

Thanks so much for your thoughts! I know that "how cold is it?" is totally subjective - just looking for opinions. Thanks!!
-Kelly

In general, our races are not cold enough that you HAVE to have a full suit. In fact, in the races in the warmer months that are just barely wetsuit legal (Raleigh both years) you're in danger of getting too warm. B2B is one race that can be chilly but I've done it twice in a sleeveless. So it's really based on cost, your desire for buoyancy, your desire for arm motion, and your cold tolerance level.

I'm a regular racer and I wear a $99 sleeveless.

Thank you! I don't know why this was making me crazy. I'm ordinarily quick to make a decision.

I'm ditching my long sleeved wetsuit in favor of a sleeveless. As smoom stated, B2B is one of the few races (here in NC) that you may have to worry about.

Long sleeved wetsuits are just too restrictive in the shoulders for me.

These guys are all tougher than me. I have a full suit and have never looked back. But maybe I need to now, just to be like d00d and smoom!

I was thinking that if I did B2B I could get some sleeves - seems like the best of both worlds.

Took my wetsuit for a test drive at the pool and whoa!!! I had no idea I would feel so buoyant! It's nuts. Can't wait to get out in open water!!
