Extreme Veteran 701 Raleigh, North Carolina | Subject: Training regimen ... a lot of BRICKS With my present schedule, most of my training sessions are bricks. Mostly these are swim-run sessions 2-3 times per week, but given an easy cycle session (3-4 sessions per week as well) I'll work in a swim. Is this counterproductive; i.e. doing more harm than good, in lieu simply swim based or run based sessions? I had allowed my training to lapse over the past 6-8 mos and badly want to get back to previous levels - but do not want to overdo it. I am going at this using a steady, relaxed pace approach ... not really hammering it at all. I also see improvement with pace and endurance on a weekly basis, so it seems to be working - but wanted to get thoughts from ones on here. Thanks in advance. |

Extreme Veteran 701 Raleigh, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Training regimen ... a lot of BRICKS Yes ... I am crunched on time and schedule so it works out best for me to get in both while I'm out. Again, I've seen steady improvement in pace and endurance and any aches or pains are minor. So this indicates to me that intensity levels are about right. |

Subject: RE: Training regimen ... a lot of BRICKS Just my opinion, but if that's how you can get your training in, that's how you get it in. I often do some type of brick if I can't schedule it any other way, or if I sleep in in the morning I do try to keep key workouts separated, as quality will trump quantity IMO. So my long run I try to keep away from anything else, although I do often swim later that same day |

Veteran 434 Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Training regimen ... a lot of BRICKS It's about the overall volume + intensity and recovery that you are doing over time (a week being the usual planning timeframe), not so much whether you are doing bricks. As long as you aren't overdoing the volume or underdoing the recovery it doesn't seem like it should be a problem. I personally do two-a-days about 3 times per week but they are morning and lunch. |

643 | Subject: RE: Training regimen ... a lot of BRICKS I'm doing 3-4 "bricks" during the week now and will up to 4-6 later when it's warmer. It's just easier to only have to drive to the gym once than it is to waste an hour to swim in the morning and then another hour to the gym at night (depending on run or bike day and the weather). Even when it's warmer, I'll swim and then drive to a lake after I change and get the chlorine off me (~30 mins later) or bike at home on the trainer after swimming. I don't know if I'd consider those bricks. |

Extreme Veteran 701 Raleigh, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Training regimen ... a lot of BRICKS Thanks all for the feedback. Again I'm testing the water here as to overdoing it and this working against me in the overall. Sounds like this is a common practice amongst triathletes. One clarification on my workouts - I move right from one sport to the other while at the gym ... this isn't a morning swim - lunch or evening run or cycle. Sounds like as long as I'm conservative with intensity, I should be able to keep this up without injury, which is what I was most concerned about. |
