Subject: FitBit? Runtastic Orbit? Need a pedometer

Wife wants a pedometer to track her steps. She won't be looking up stats on the computer or feeding info to her iPhone. She doesn't want a heart rate monitor. She doesn't need something to track her sleep.

Just wants something that will tell her how far she has walked today, in steps and distance and in calories, and is not a bulky thing like my Garmin. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I also say fitbit. I never even noticed mine. It was so unobtrusive that some days I'd forget to sync it.

There are a few options. It sounds like Fitbit is one. I have the Charge HR but that (1) Has HR and (2) connects to my phone...so I'm guessing that is not what she would want.

The Fitbit Zip, One or Flex sound like what you want.

(And OMG, just saw these. If price isn't so much of a deal breaker...http://www.fitbit.com/toryburch#1  They are cute...)

There is also the Garmin vivofit or vivosmart. The vivofit sounds like it might be a good option. The battery life is supposed to be a year+

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/into-sports/health-fitness/vivofit-2/prod504038.html

There is also the Jawbone UP24. It's fun looking.

These are the "main 3" activity trackers. I was looking at them towards the end of last year. They all tend to get good reviews but you'll find a few who don't like a certain one.

I worked at REI over the holiday season so I may be partial...but I do remember they have a fairly good display and selection if you have one close to you.

As a counterpoint to this device :-)  I decided against GPS because I wanted it to be able to do indoor tracking. Such as on an indoor track or a treadmill. But Moonrocket is right that it isn't much more than a fitbit and you can add the footpod to make it like an activity tracker...But I'm lazy and like to be able to slap it on my wrist and go :-)

You can shut off the GPS mode on the FR15. In fact, when it's in activity-tracking mode, the GPS is not on (otherwise the battery wouldn't last the whole day). So really, it's like a GPS watch and an activity tracker rolled into one- but you don't have to use both features at the same time.

The new Garmin Vivoactiv watch sort of replaces the FR15-- has the same functionality but with added modes for other sport, including swimming (with lap counting).
