I decided not to do the Disney half marathon this month because of a lingering injury. I had already picked up the shirt and it was a race day decision not to run.

Last night I needed a long sleeve shirt to train in and on went the Disney HM shirt. It fit very nicely.

If anyone asks, no, I didn't run it but I did pay a lot of $ for the shirt.

It would have never crossed my mind not to wear the shirt that I helped design. But then, I don't spend too much time worrying about what people think of me. In fact, one of my favorite race shirts that I can't keep clean because I'm wearing it all the time came from answering a question correctly at a completely different race, and the prize was....my favorite shirt ever!!

I say wear it with pride!! If anyone asks you about it I suspect your story is far more interesting than any of the runners!

I have a shirt from a 5k that was run in the town I grew up in. My mom walked in it and gave me the shirt. I have worn it a couple of times. I have never had anyone approach me about a random 5k. I am not superstitious that it is going to cause bad luck it is just a shirt.

I probably would not were a marathon, ironman etc shirt, in part because people might be more likely to strike up a conversation. 5k not so much they are a dime a dozen. If someone did ask me about the shirt it would more than likely be about the location ratherr than the actual race (it is about 3 hours away)

^^^ That's funny.  I have the same rule!

By the way, is there a picture of this monkey? I'd really like to see it actually

For that reason I say wear it!

Diversity of accomplishments makes the world interesting.

And I'm curious about the monkey.

They recruit knitters and crocheters to make them monkey's every year (there is a group on ravelry)

I took mine to a local 5k to take some picture to mail it because I knew there would be good props.

They have some pictures of the other monkeies on their facebook photopage: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Harpeth-Hills-Flying-Monkey/139453496...

It's a shirt.  I'd wear it.  I wear a NYC Marathon shirt that my sister gave me.  She raced and finished, not me.  Shirt was too big for her.  Fits me well and is a nice ls tech shirt.  If people ask me about the race, I tell them where the shirt came from.  No big deal.

With one exception, I used to care, no longer though.  I have shirts from races I didn't do, given to me by friends that did the race, etc.

The exception is I wouldn't wear a shirt that said "Finisher" on it if I didn't do the race

Ha!  The Better Half and I did a HM Sunday and there were lots of people wearing the race t-shirt that said "Finisher" on the back (they gave them out in the swag bag at registration the days prior to the race).  TBH remarked that it was tempting fate a bit to wear the finisher shirt as we passed the second mile marker!

And, as someone who knows their monkeys, that is one HE11 of a monkey!  If that doesn't earn you some shirt-wearing cred, I just don't know what does.

I have one shirt that is an exception, a 2013 Boston Marathon running tee. I didn't run the race, but I still wear it. It's a statement.

I don't wear it just because I don't want to have to explain to people that ask about the race that I didn't do it for whatever reason.

My wife is even more strict about people that wear the race shirt at the actual race. She thinks you haven't earned it until after the race is finishes. She's a little on the crazy side to be sure.

I'm going to let you in on how to get faster by doing nothing. Well, not exactly nothing, but you won't have to raise your heart rate, put out 300 watts, or really even break a sweat.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"
