Pre-race routine:

When I signed up for this race, I was planning it to sort of wrap up my 2014 season and kick off my winter run focus. After my bike accident in September derailed my tri season and put me in a sling for nine weeks, it became a run/walk event to restart my training. We already had hotel and plane reservations before my accident so why not go and participate? I lined up approvals from my doctor and physical therapist and I was good to go, right?

Since I was not racing, I decided to dress as an "elvette," it being Elvis and all. My outfit consisted of a white running skirt from Athleta and a white shirt that I decorated with some fabric pain and sparkly jewels that I got a Jo-Ann Fabric.

We arrived in Las Vegas on Friday afternoon and went straight to the expo. It was a good expo but even on Friday it was pretty crowded so we were glad to get that taken care of first thing.

Our plan on Saturday was to not walk too much. Fail! Anyway, we had a good time and kept it fairly low key. Pre-race day pizza at Flour & Barley.

On Sunday morning we had breakfast in the room (oatmeal, banana), lunch at Earl of Sandwich ( avocado blt) since I wanted nothing too heavy.

Event warmup:

Walk from the hotel to the race start near the Mirage. Watch Macklemore & Ryan Lewis in a pre-race concert. I also had some pre-race sports beans and part of a banana somewhere in here. Find my corral and line up and wait and wait and wait for our turn to go.

Comments:

Weather, mid 50s with 5-10 mph North wind at the event start

35,000 runners

They close the Strip twice a year. New Year's Eve and for this event

Not spectator friendly in that you couldn't find *your* runner and meeting up at the end was problematic.

World's longest finisher chute.

Lot's of Elvi as well as superheroes and runners in sparkly and flashing gear. So much energy as we turn from downtown ran back down the Strip towards the Mirage and the finish line!
What would you do differently?:

Not dislocate my shoulder in September
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

shoulder rehap

Event comments:

Fun event! I would totally do this again!

Ha ha, this race had me thrown off, too, when I saw it listed.  I thought, "Who resurrected an old race report?"

VERY cute Elvette costume and kudos for getting out there and doing what you could do considering the shoulder injury.  Your injured result is still better than many folks' (mine included) healthy result!

I had that thought too!!   In any case, looks like you had fun and enjoyed yourself, which is what this is all about.  Good job coming back from your injury.  You rocked the Rock 'n' Roll, that's for sure!

Haha, glad you got around to completing the rr, especially because it'll document your "road to recovery"

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.
