What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training for ironman in December reduced the amount of swim training I did. My routine was also disrupted by travel and having a new coach who is still getting the hang of the squad. He is leaving in April so the disruption will all start over again.

So, the combination of my lack of fitness and the rough conditions made it a hard slog. This was one of my slowest crossings so far. I have an application for an out of competition crossing on March 21 depending on weather. If it goes ahead it will be interesting to see what happens.

Congrats on a great swim.  You may have done it faster in the past but I think it is an amazing accomplishment none the less.

Although you didn't get quite the result you desired, you still finished a lot faster than a lot of people!  And swimming 20K just boggles my mind, incredible!  Great job, hope you are able to get into the next swim.

A 20K swim is quite an accomplishment. Maybe your slowest but still pretty darn fast considering the other training issues.

Am I the only one who reads this as Rottenest?

No, TJ, I did that too!

Way to go, Kingsley.  I can't imagine swimming for over 6 hours.  Like the others, I bow in admiration before Your Royal Fishiness!

I first decided I was going to "do" a triathlon in 1994. It wasn't until 13 years later, in 2007 that I actually did. Why did it take me 13 years to get to the starting line? The swim!

Stroke after stroke, my pace was pulling me out into the middle of the lake quickly. The cover seemed to be getting thicker. But still in the distance, the little boathouse was my lighthouse.

Many people in the triathlon world think they need to just emulate Ian Thorpe to have a faster time, or have a similar stroke to Michael Phelps to cruise through the swim. Unfortunately...
