I'm signed up for my first Ironman in France. It looks like wetsuit is definitely the way forward, but I obviously want to get one that is in regulation. It seems like a lot of the triathlon wetsuits I am looking at use neoprene. The rules on neoprene seem to only permit it in certain water temperatures. I am concerned that the med is going to be too warm for the standard wetsuits I am looking at. If anyone happens to know an appropriate wetsuit and for IM France, and could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Price point around £75-£250.

Thanks,

Steve.

I wore a full wetsuit for IM France. The water is very chilly.

I wore a full wetsuit for IM France, as did the best part of 2000 other people.  Unless the regulations have changed (mine was in '09) then I am sure they are still fine.

Great bike course by the way.

What was the wetsuit material, they all look shiney like neoprene in the videos, is that allowed?

Most if not all(not positive) wetsuits are made of neoprene. different manufacturers use different durometers of neoprene, along with cloth backing materials and pattern layouts.

So yes neoprene is allowed. I believe the regulations state a maximum thickness for the neoprene which will limit the amount of floatation it gives you. If you buy a used triathlon wetsuit you need to look into this, if your buying a new one it should be fine.

Neoprene is allowed up to a maximum thickness of 5mm.

I'm doing my first tri Saturday. It starts at 7 AM and the forecast is calling for a high of 82 (air temp). Do I need to rush out and get a wetsuit?

This is a 'first impressions' review of the Fit2Race Sockeye Fullsuit. From a first wetsuit point-of-view, I was able to dramatically improve my pace over non-wetsuit swims.
