I'm swimming a 1650 at a meet this weekend. I am not particularly fast, so I opted to start in the shallow end, so now dive. (I'm cheap and there was a discount for shallow end).

Background:
*Last weekend I swam 1150 yards in 20 minutes for an indoor triathlon. (no dive for that swim either) If you're so inclined my data from t he swim is here: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/714574835
*I'm hoping to be in the same heat with two other swimmers on my team who are pretty close in ability. Looking at the Psych Sheet I'm not likely going to be in the lane next to either of them.

Leave the garmin off in a pool race. You are not supposed to wear a pacing device or receive coaching during the race.

I do know not to wear a watch for the usms races. I asked seine last weekend if it was OK and they said yes.

My turns are ok , our coach likes to work on starts, finishes, and turns. I've been concentrating on them for the past several weeks to help prep.

30:18 based on your tri swim time.  But there's a good chance you'll go quicker since it's not a tri and you'll be thinking, I'll show Goggles a thing or two....

I'm going with 28:30 but I think you can do a little better.  Get a good warmup in.

You don't make it to the showcase showdown by going over! Granted you were closer. Pretty sure we're going price is right style.

Either way. Great swim!

Curious-- is this 1650 yards or metres? I am assuming yards, since that equates to about 1500m?

p.s. congrats on your finish!

Yards... distance events in yards are 500 Y instead of 400 m, 1000 Y instead of 800 m and 1650 Y instead of 1500 m. There is no 500 m or 1000 m free in any sanctioned meet.

1650 Y = 1508.76 m with 6 extra turns 1650 is a tad faster...

The optimal number of times you should weight train is dependant on the time of year, how close you are to your A race, and which training cycle you are in.

We triathletes are a lucky lot. We have the time and the resources to enjoy a sport that is time consuming and can be very expensive. I take this opportunity to reflect on my good fortune.
