I am looking for any groups or personnel that do open water swimming in the San Antonio area. I am looking for someone that would maybe want to meet up at a local lake for swimming. I live on the southwest side of town. Lake Boerne I understand is a good lake to swim in.

Boerne Lake is really the only close one with good open water swimming, in my opinion.

When Tri-Sition area was around, they held Saturday morning open water swim out there with canoe support once the temps came up, usually around mid-late March.
Now that they've closed, I'm not sure if they still do that. I also have not been racing tri for the past few years so I'm not sure whats going on out there.
But I'd bet that you'd probably come across a few people out there on any given Saturday morning.

From the boat dock, across and back is about 1600m if I remember correctly.

There is a tri club up in New Braunfels as well that does open water swimming in the comal / Guadalupe river. Not sure how good it is, I've only been toobing on it. But you can check out their club on Facebook and see what their up to.

I'm not aware of anything south of San Antonio.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I was wondering how far across the lake it would be. At my next event in April I'll have to keep my eyes open for other groups.

FYI- Even with the colder weather that we had at the beginning of March, I took the opportunity last Saturday to do an Open Water Swim on Lake LBJ.  I feared that the water temperature would remind me of the mountain lakes at Scout Camp that we did our swim checks and water sports in at 9,000 feet above sea level in the Rocky Mountains.   The water however was fine.  It was actually a more comfortable temperature than the pool I swim in 3 times a week at the gym.

Lake Marble Falls and LBJ are another 45 minutes north of Lake Borne so I don't think that is a good option for you with the tight hours that most keep on Triathlon training, but I would surely welcome anyone that wants to join me on an Open Water Swim.

We are planning on camping around the area this spring and summer. If we head up that way I'll reach out and maybe schedule a swim.

Stroke after stroke, my pace was pulling me out into the middle of the lake quickly. The cover seemed to be getting thicker. But still in the distance, the little boathouse was my lighthouse.
