I am injured and can not run. My Doctor said that I can swim and bike, so I signed up and trained for an Aquabike. I came in 2nd in my first race and had a great time. It is not wimpy, it is hard if you give it all you got.

It is pretty awesome to just leave it all out there on the bike without having to worry about saving anything for the run. I remember being pretty wrecked in T2 (aka the finish) of my aquabike last summer.

Nice Job

I did an Aquabike last year for the same reason no running doctors orders, I had a lot of fun doing it too Just didn't feel right not heading out on the run though, I found it felt pretty weird when I got off the bike and went OH Crap that "s it I am finished .

How many people competed in the aquabike? I would do more, but I don't really want to do them alone.

Love the Aquabike Option, also have done one while injured, and looking at another one that fits my training program.

The Rev3 races offer that option, including up to half ironman

The ones I've done have all been fairly low in numbers, but also done as part of a triathlon so there are lots of people around. You just don't really know that well who else you're going against while out on the course.

I had major back surgery, have 4 nice titanium screws in my lower back (Naval service related). Ran all my life, Doctor said no running. The weight started to pile on so took up road biking a couple years ago. It's been a god send. Then a friend suggested Aquabike, I am going to try my first one in June. Been really working on my swimming, I can swim the distance but have to breath stroke every so often. hopefully i can work up to freestyle stoke the entire time before the event. I think the Aquabike is a great idea for those of us who are physically unable to run.

Same here, extensively herniated disk, surgery slated for November..

I''m signed up for an OLY aquabike in July and I convinced the race director at my May 31st sprint tri to let my swim and bike splits stand even though I won't go out on the run.  I just want to see how I placed in those two segments as overall they will score me a DNF...

I've never done an aquabike so I'm thinking it will feel weird, maybe even a little embarrasing to not head out on the run...  Maybe not, and I don't think there's any shame in aquabike, just that most spectators around transition probably think most are doing all 3 disciplines...

Good luck!

First of all, congrats! I don't think that completing anything that 99.8% of the population can't finish is wimpy.

According to the Docs and my knees, I'm running on borrowed time. I haven't yet done an Aqua but can definitely see that as a possible way to continue going forward when I finally have to have my knees replaced. Hopefully, not for a while, but nice to have an option.

Hey Mike
Which race in July? Over on the west side of the state or somewhere else?

I'm 52 years old, beat up and way past embarrassment. I guess if someone throws me some crap I'll ask them how many night aircraft carrier landings they have, if they say 300 plus, I'll bow down to them and give them a smile ;-)
