I Found that when my eyes are up like yours I tend to sink in the back. I try to keep my head down. Almost looking at the line directly below my belly button. I am 3 seconds faster when I focus on that.
Thanks Nick B, this helped a lot. Back in my high school days, our coach taught us to hold the water line on our forehead and use that as a pivot point to rotate and breath. So that's how I swam for years. In addition to everyone's comments, I also spent some time looking at videos of elite swimmers and noticed their head being down significantly more in the water. I tried it this morning and immediately noticed the cool morning air on my dariare indicating that I was certainly lifting up quite a bit.
Between that and focusing on my catch, I was able to hold a similar pace to normal with much less effort. I did get some fatigue in different parts of my arms from changing my stroke and I had some trouble getting my breathing down, but those are easy fixes that will come with time.
Thanks everyone for your help, I'll keep working on it and shoot another video in a couple of weeks to see if I cleared up these issues. |
