Well there goes trying to plan my season early and save money! I just learned that my son is going to Blue Lakes Fine Arts Camp (yeah!)... unfortunately his end of session concert is the same day as MiTi, which was my big A race for the year. One of the goals I set for myself was to earn the Endurance Award (complete Riverbank Run, GR Marathon, and either GR or Miti Half), which leaves me with the GR Half in around 7 weeks. My run fitness is there (completed a HM last weekend, all set for Riverbank Run) and I've been cycling and swimming off and on. I'm hoping to get my tri bike back from the shop today and ride it outside for the first time with a teammate... hopefully around 40-50 miles (my long for the year is Barry Roubaix, which is 36 hilly miles of gravel). If this ride goes well I think I am going to pull the trigger and switch from the Olympic to the 70.3 at GR. My main goal for MiTi was to just finish as this is my first 70.3 so that won't change, it will more than likely just be a bit slower. My question for you guys is this... what is the course like? I'm not familiar with Ada but after looking at the course maps it seems like the bike course is almost pancake flat... not sure about the run. Any feedback on the course that might help me with my decision? I'm trying to decide if this is a truly stupid idea or just one of my normal overly ambitious plans

Not "pancake flat" but close. Some rollers.
The run has at least one good climb.

You will be slower being it's early compared to what you were planning but I think you will be fine.

Bike course is mostly shallow rollers, nothing even close to out of the saddle, with some good sections of flat to find speed. Run course is two loops with the middle half of each loop rolling. There are two decent inclines during those run rollers.

Set a PR at GR Tri Half two years ago and blame the course. The bike is the perfect profile to set up a good run.

I just posted that I have an entry available for transfer for the GRTri Half Iron distance, if you're still interested (have decided) in this race and distance.

I just finished the NYC marathon on Sunday and I think I'm going to venture into triathlons. I am doing an Olympic distance and I want to do a 70.3 next year too. Any advice?

Some mistakes I made during the Hawaii Ironman 70.3. Don't be caught out on the course not knowing how or not having the equipment to change a flat tire.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
