Who's in? I'll be doing the Oly course (assuming Specialized has fixed my recalled bike in time...)

It was low 60's last year, coldest swim of my career.

So what did you all think of the race??

Thanks to Mark who was loud at the top of the hill. It seemed like when you went past him, the rest of the bike course got real easy and fast.

Pretty tough conditions.  The wind wasn't so bad on the swim as the current, I thought.  But on the bike the wind showed itself at the worst places possible.  And dodging the mud on the run made it more difficult.  Good to see everyone again, and sorry I missed seeing dprocket.

Agreed on the swim and the bike. I was initially disappointed with my results, but it pretty much was the swim. I really had troubles with my goggles in the 1st lap, and the 2nd lap I had to dodge the boat--not to mention the current. I'm thinking that my goggles don't seal real well in the cold water, as I had the same problem in Oct at a cold water swim, but no issues since then.

I felt much stronger on the bike this year, but head wind made the overall time a little bit slower. Nice race. Apart from the wind, can't complain about the weather at all.

Great job by all! I had fun, although I wish I had grabbed some beer to explain my behavior. Tough conditions for sure, not sure what the pontoon boat was doing on the swim. It clearly looked like it was running into swimmers...

X2 for Mark's excellent cheering, it was highly inspirational and and made the next 8-10 minutes literally fly by at like 30 mph, then it quickly wore off and biking got difficult again.

Mark, I wanted to give you a shout out when I got to the top of the hill, but I couldn't muster it. Glad to see you assumed the role of energetic guy on hill climb cheering for exhausted athletes. Can I expect you on the dam hill at the Legend Triathlon? And if so, will you be wearing a Speedo?

haha, I will be racing the OLY (had to downgrade from 70.3), but you might see some bananas on the run course... Great job everyone, I had a lot of fun.

Well organized and run race. Enjoyed every bit of it. Announcer made me giggle a few times. Funny guy. Nice atmosphere. As far as performance, I am still way off on my run speed in general and it just shows off the bike. Though I am at 6 weeks to go to CDA, I feel as if I am missing a couple of gears, both cycling and running. I have yet to touch back my 2008-2010 run off the bike in sub 20min. If I run at CDA in 3:30-3:35 range I will be a happy camper. It pays off giving up run speed. Nice job to all of you. Wind was a factor no doubt, otherwise a nice day to race.

Some serious fast talent in this area for sure. Nationals is once again in Milwaukee, quite a few qualifiers here on this BT board I see, well done gents! I may have to do the regional in Iowa to get in this year (not to mention keep the rubber on the road....)

Reece, every year I did SMP Tri I qualified... I think you can qualify even if you did the sprint race at Shawnee Mission. Just a thought...

Hah, that's how I qualified for last year! I won my AG at the 2013 SM Tri sprint because all of the fast guys did the long course! This year I'm doing the long course at SM Tri (if it doesn't get rained out again) because I want to do 4 laps instead of just 2. I won't qualify that way because bullies like Ogden, Harper, Wait et. al. will show up and kick my butt, LOL

Mark it was great hearing you and Scott cheer at the top of High Grove road! Thanks!

I have never been happier to get off my bike in a race! I have no idea how the people running disks stayed vertical? My 404's had me blowing all over the place on the dam and the decent down ViHigh Grove Rd.

The disc isn't the problem. It actually stabilizes the bike up to about 35-40mph winds and if you are over 140 pounds. The front wheel is always the culprit.

I run a 60/90 Flo setup and was actually surprised at how stable I felt. The headwind was just hard, but I didn't feel any wobble.

On Saturday I got my bike back from the LBS to have a new aerobar installed (a recall part on the Shiv). So Sunday was my first ride with the new set up. The position was supposed to be identical, but I AM a little more forward on the front and I think that may have helped the stability. This would corroborate what Jayhox was saying.

Plus the fact that I'm 190 pounds .... the wind doesn't blow me too much---but I have felt wobble at high speeds before on my hills routes.

For anyone who's interested, my Fenix 3 measured the swim course at 1891 yds....first time I've used it in open water so I"m not sure of the accuracy.

I had no wobbles, just kept getting blown over 1-2 foot by the gusts. Probably to much time on the trainer and not enough road time. My bad.

Thanks on the swim distance. I was guessing about 500 yards over.

Sounds about right for the swim. I usually average about 1:19-1:20/100 and they had me at 1:33/100.
