Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 42m 6s
Overall Rank = 9/15

Age Group Rank = 9/15
Pre-race routine:

Got to the site in a serious downpour. Left my stuff in my bag to try to keep it dry
Event warmup:

Pacing...
Swim
  • 13m 36s
  • 586 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

I decided to sight every third stoke. I felt straight as an arrow for the whole swim. Did not push the swim pace and ended up right where I expected time-wise.

A lot of us were not clearly informed that there was an orange buoy between the two green turn buoys that we had to stay outside of. Caused a lot of backtracking and confusion.
What would you do differently?:

Not much... I don't have a lot of pool time. Thankfully I am at home in open water.
Transition 1
  • 03m 29s
Comments:

I kept my things packed because of the weather. I was one of the slowest out of the entire field...
What would you do differently?:

Practice?
Bike
  • 43m 12s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Not quite the performance I would have liked as I wanted 17+mph, but better than last year.
What would you do differently?:

Train.
Transition 2
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

I thought I did better than I did. Wet stuff slowed me down
What would you do differently?:

Practice
Run
  • 39m 44s
  • 3 miles
  • 13m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

This is my weakest event. Thankfully I wasn't hurt this year.
What would you do differently?:

I need to be able to run 5K off the bike without walking
Post race
Warm down:

Sucked wind, grabbed my gear and got it out to the van. Returned to check my times and grab 3 oreos, 1 bananna and 2 BBQ sandwiches (no sauce) from the food tent... YUM

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I have no stamina.

Event comments:

Other than the buoy snafu, everything was okay to me!

Nice work, and yeah, the swim sucked for everyone I think. I wish it had been dryer! I know I was shivering waiting for the swim to start!

Most people believe that running barefoot is dangerous. Certainly, depending upon the surface, they would be correct. However, there is some suggestion that running barefoot may reduce injuries.

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.
