Comments:

Definitely out of swim shape having not swam since states in middle of March. The fastest swim time was 5:11 and he took off right from the start. I tried hanging onto his feet but couldn't.

5:21 out of water plus :14 run into T1.
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Technically part of the bike course, but really really struggled trying to get clipped into my shoes at the mount line. I definitely need to learn/practice having the shoes clipped in pre-race. Can't keep taking that much time in transition trying to get the shoes clipped in.

Pretty flawless T1 though besides the mount line.
What would you do differently?:

Learn a flying mount.
Bike
  • 33m 29s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.50 mile/hr
Comments:

Made a racing error by not taking advantage of the tailwind. I thought "riding 25 mph, I'll just hold this and be conservative for the run." Didn't work out that way on the trip back to transition.

Also, time likely would've been around 33:00 rather than 33:29 because of the mounting problems.
What would you do differently?:

Take advantage of winds.
Transition 2
  • 00m 43s
What would you do differently?:

Took feet out of shoes way too early. Need to analyze the last half mile into T2 next time and walk through it in my head. Other than that, no problems.
Run
  • 18m 28s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Nice run course. Felt good on the run with a 6:17, 6:20, and then a 6:00 pace for the last 0.94. Run was a bit short.

Again though, should have realized how close the finishing line was. Made my move way too late thinking the course was a full 5k. Also, when getting passed with about 10 seconds to go, I should've made a surge. Had plenty left in the tank. Felt like I could have held that pace for a 10k.

Run has definitely improved, but need to use that to my advantage instead of holding back so much.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster, race tactically.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mount line problems, not racing smartly.

Event comments:

Just a well-run, solid small sprint triathlon/duathlon. Everything was on time and no problems during the race. Well put together.

At mile ten I heard a noise like I had gotten paper in my spokes or something. I looked but saw nothing but a few seconds later my rear tire blows out.

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.
