Subject: Flo wheels on felt b16
I just bought some flo wheels used and went to put them on my 2011 felt b16. The wheels are too tight for the brake pads. Is there an easy fix for getting the wider rims to fit on my b16 or do I need new brake pads/brakes? Thanks for any input.

Might depend more on the brakes than the bike. With wider rimmed wheels and SRAM 10sp RED brakes I've needed to remove the inner adjustment washer. They are slightly conical in shape and sits between the arm and pad holder. You'll lose some adjustment/alignment capability removing these. The TRP brakes on my TT/Tri bike had spacers you needed to remove for wider wheels. I'm assuming you've adjusted the cable tension on the brakes to widen them and that was not enough.

I have a 2012 B16 with a Flo 60/90 combo and, although the rims are wider, I recall that they fit the calipers by simply turning the little brake lever release and adjusting the barrel adjustment.

If that doesn't give you enough room, you will have to loosen the cable on the calipers.  Its not too difficult.

^^^ exactly, it's just an adjustment. The flo rims are a little wider than your stock felt rims.

I did this as well. I just moved the washer from one side of the arm (pad side) to the other (outside). Moving both left and right washers out effectively opened up the brake arms a little and gave me an additional few mm's.

(If your pads were old and worn down already, you wouldn't need to do this.)

When I switched to carbon rims on my B16 my LBS did the washer thing and let out the cable as much as possible, however in the back, there is a limit to the amount these arms can be opened, and it's not much. I'm not sure what is stopping it from opening more, whether there is something built into the brake itself or if it is the frame (I think it's the frame) but opened as wide as possible still only leaves maybe 1-2mm on either side, so no room for error. If your wheel isn't 100% true or if you don't line your wheel up EXACTLY when you put it on, or if you hit a pothole while riding and it moves your wheel ever so slightly, you will be rubbing on a brake pad. It's kind of annoying.

Does anyone sell low profile brake pads for carbon rims?

I just put some Flos (90 rear, 60 front) on my 2015 B14 (loaners from a friend). I had the same issue. I'm not sure if this was the correct thing to do but I noticed there was a washer/spacer between the brake pads and calipers for front and rear. I simply removed that washer/spacer and the wheels fit fine. It did it for a 5K time trial so my next course of action will be to ask bike shop guy today while I pick up my packet for Sundays 20 mile bike ride which will involve more braking etc. I'll report back with my findings.

My back wheel needs to be trued up. It has a slight side-to-side wobble, and I feel at times like I'm going to lose control when I ride. Is this something that I should only trust to my LBS to do?

The wheels are my first area of concern and I have started to shop around. I find it nauseating to think of spending the same amount for wheels as my bike. Any help?

Work your weakness. In the sport of triathlon, most coaches agree that you should spend the most time working on your weakest of the three sports. For many of you this will be swimming!
