Hi all! I'm thinking of doing IM Texas in 2016. I've heard it's HOT but am looking for other feedback.

This would be my 3rd full.

Thanks!

I did IMTX last week as my first full distance triathlon. It was hot, mid 80s with high humidity. I am stationed in GA and have been training here so I was as acclimatized as I could be. It would have been much harder (it was plenty hard) without having trained in similar conditions. That said, there was some shade on parts of the run and there was wind throughout.

I volunteered at IMTX 2015 and signed up for 2016. I am from Louisiana, so I train in the 90s and very high humidity, so I did not find TX bad in May. This years wind was off and on, so there was some relief. A friend did TX one year and the wind was so bad he said he was on the bike for 8 hours. Can't wait till May rolls around again.

I have done 2 IM and they were both HOT ( 90s). I was hoping to be prepared for the heat since it was during the summer, but 6 weeks prior we had very cool weather. You can created Hot conditions inside for training, but I just kept training outside. I guess I survived. I love the heat though If your not prepared for the heat you will prob do okay since you already know what to expect for the race.

It's the summer in Houston... It's hot and humid! but being from Fl you should be used to it as well I would think.

My race report is different. My motivating factors go back seven years. I have lived in denial for seven years. Depression. I registered for Ironman Texas even though I felt like a complete failure.

So tell me why I want to bother swimming the other strokes? I'm IM training, and plan to swim freestyle for the entire race, is there an advantage to working on the other strokes?

I never imagined that 350 yards broken down into 7 REALLY long lanes would be so big! I gasped out loud and told Grady that maybe I had underestimated the swim.

When it comes down to it, it’s me who has to believe I can run a full marathon after swimming and biking, and no amount of others’ belief in me is going to help.

Now, for the last 20 years I’ve always though that jogging seemed about as interesting as watching paint dry, and you know what? That’s how it turned out to be.

I’m a 240lb man, and I run relatively long distances. How would you recommend training for marathon and IM distances as heavy as I am?

A Navy Seals program modified specifically for triathletes. This workout is DIFFICULT!!! The weight training portion alone may make you cry.
