So I'm doing the legend 100 in 2 weeks. I'm undertrained and still working off an injury but oh well. It still will be fun to complete instead of compete considering where I am. I looked at their swim map and they pretty much only have one loop. For the 70, it says it's 1.2 miles, for the Olympic is says it's 1500m, and for the Legend, it says to do 2 loops (2 miles). Little confused. I'm trying to estimate my time, since my swim fitness is still decent, but a 1500x2 swim would be a little different than two loops at 1.2 miles. Anyone else know anything?

Map in athlete guide shows 1 mile per lap. But in text for each distance it says 2 miles for Legend 100 and 1.2 miles for Legend 70. I'm guessing they won't move turn buoys between Legend 100 and Legend 70 starts. So......Legend 70 will end up being closer to a one mile swim OR the Legend 100 swim will be 2.4 miles if the Legend 70 is indeed 1.2 miles long.

I just posted a question on the Legend FB page. https://www.facebook.com/legendendurance

Just saw your post and they responded. Sounds like 70(.3) will have a few extra buoys to swim around.

There's only 2 waves for the 100. I'm wondering how many people signed up for it. I'm thinking it's going to be just me and the trail out there. Oh well, better than a solo training day

It's Silverback Legend, the course will be well defined on race morning, you should be prepared for anything between 3000m and 4000m. I really expect 1 course for the Oly/70/100, I don't think there are enough buoy colors to have 3 back stretches (so to speak) within ~200m of one another. Perhaps they will have different starting corral locations, that'd be a pain too though, my bet is we all swim on a long Oly course, ~1mile. Of course, for the 2 mile swim, if you swim along the shore between first and second laps of the Oly course that could add a couple hundred meters and take you from 3000m to 2 miles, so that would only require 2 extra buoys for the backstretch of the 1.2 mile swim, maybe they would do it that way. Too many variables, just be ready to roll with the punches on race morning.

I've heard of at least 4 or 5 KC folks doing the 100 so you won't be completely alone out there.

I'll be coming down from Lincoln, NE and doing the olympic distance. This will be my first olympic and 2nd Tri.
I'm pretty familiar with the area after living in Lawrence for 8 years, Clinton Lake is a nice setting with lots of rolling hills surrounding. I'm hoping to get a solid experience at this distance to build some confidence for Chicago in August. I'm looking forward to the race and would like to meet
up after with anybody interested. Cheers and good luck!!

Heard the lake water is up 9 feet. They are meeting today to discuss if it is possible to let enough out so we can have a swim....

Mark, I'm a bit ignorant and have no corp of engineer background, but what is the connection to the higher lake level and the ability to host a swim? Is the lake coming up onto the boat launch/parking lot?

I was wondering the same. My brother was there last weekend and said the boat ramp was almost entirely submerged and there was a ton more debris in the lake that had become dislodged by the higher water levels. I'm sure they'll have it figured out, though.

I am going to be there for the 70.3. That could make it more interesting, some possibilities for an xterra race where the swim is more adventurous also. I am hoping the killer piranha will be gone though.

I'm going to let you in on how to get faster by doing nothing. Well, not exactly nothing, but you won't have to raise your heart rate, put out 300 watts, or really even break a sweat.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"
