Elite 4583 | Subject: RE: 5.30.15 Super Saturday Training / Racing Hellllllloo! 6:30am: 30 minute run followed by 30 minutes of strength training. Comedy of errors on my planned 3500 yard OWS yesterday. Pulled up to the parking area of Blue Lake to find about 20 or so divers packing up to leave. As I'm walking in flip flops to the wooden boardwalk that leads out to the lake, I hydroplane on some mud and go down in a huge puddle in front of the whole group. I shout "Carry on, nothing to see here!" Pride wounded, I crawl out of the mud and continue on. Get going with my swim but it just wasn't going well, couldn't get into a rhythm, kept changing my mind about how I wanted to get my distance in. About 2000 yards into the swim I stop to adjust the earbuds on my newly purchashed Audioflood shuffle and accidentally pull on the earphone jack and glub glub glub...down went my shuffle. Normally I swim the shoreline where it's shallow so I could have easily retrieved it, but at the time I was practicing sighting so I was 1/2 way across the lake at a buoy. By that time I was over the whole experience and packed it in for the day! I left a note for the divers--the shuffle dropped straight down at one of the areas they do their descent--here's hoping they may find it! Whether it will still work or not, who knows. Tomorrow I have a 6 hour bike trainer session and then begin the slow, blessed taper leading up to Ironman CDA! Edited by ingleshteechur 2015-05-30 8:59 AM |

Well, I guess if there was to be any group of people nearby during an incident like that, scuba divers are the best choice. I hope you find it. Not sure how waterproof those things are designed to be when the headphone jack is pulled. I had an 8 miler today, and i double dip for an 8 miler again tomorrow. The joys of cumulative fatigue. I foresee lots of sitting around in my inflatable kiddie pool this afternoon. I think I also need to invest in a removable seat cover for my car because the butt sweat situation is starting to get pretty heavy duty. |

Member 1487 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: RE: 5.30.15 Super Saturday Training / Racing Oh NO Kim! Some days it just isn't in the plan for anything to work right. I think it's mental toughness training sneaking in to our lives! Bummer about your shuffle - maybe they can find it. 6 hour trainer ride??? Wow, don't envy you that one! I like my trainer, but only can stand 3 hours at a time! Good luck - and you are almost to taper - whooo hoo! 5am - 58 mile ride this morning. Have to start getting out earlier since the 100 degree temps are beginning to appear. Rode 1 loop of the IMAZ course and then a HILLY ride home. The fit on my tri bike isn't to best - my shoulders were achy in aero and I had to sit up often. That paired with my inability to find a saddle that works equaled a frustrating last 10 miles home. I need to get this all figured out soon! Contemplating going to Hot yoga at noon to stretch out. It is a workout, but helps with my core strength and flexibility so I really should go. Good luck to all those training and racing!! |

Master 8247 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: 5.30.15 Super Saturday Training / Racing Oh no! Hope the divers find it. OWS to music must be cool, though, until you lose it! In the lake where I swim in Oregon I always have to be on the watch/listen for rogue boaters and jet-skiers, so can't afford to listen to anything. "Long run" here--90 minutes with 8 X 800 at tempo effort and equal recovery. This kind of workout just sucks in tropical heat/humidity. The only thing worse is longer pickups like 10-20 minutes. Felt like my face/body were on fire by the end, plus my shoes were soaked from 40 minutes on, and cursing that I didn't start earlier. (Started at 6:20, which is late morning here!) I think because I'm short-timing now (going home in two weeks for summer), I'm losing my tolerance! PM 2000m of swimming, easy recovery stuff. Wanted to do something more ambitious but managed to get a mild case of what we call "Ho Chi Minh's revenge" that has been making the rounds of my class, and feeling a bit under-fueled. Actually felt good swimming, though Feeling better this AM and getting ready to start a brick. Slowly building back up again as I entered a HIM in July. Average temps there supposed to be 52-66. I will freeze! Will think of you while I start my workout on the trainer--I'll do the first 45 minutes or so indoors to avoid the shift change, then head over to the industrial park. Enjoy your taper-you've certainly earned it. |

270 | Subject: RE: 5.30.15 Super Saturday Training / Racing Sorry about the shuffle. I hate losing stuff like that. 10 mile run for me today. The weather was not very hot, upper 70's, but it was extremely humid so it was kinda miserable. It felt good to actually get to train outside today, though. I've been stuck going to the pool and gym lately because of the persistent thunderstorms. |
