Subject: Old dog, new lesson
Today I did a sprint race, it was the first race I did 11 years ago and have raced or volunteered (or both ) every year. First tri of the year using tri bike and aero helmet. Grabbed the helmet off the shelf where I put it after silverman last october.

Run into T1, grab helmet, pull on clips to clip it, clip slides right off. Rethreading things like these are hard enough, but add a .5 mile swim and a 1/4 mile sand and hill run, virtually impossible! Probably added 1:30 to my transition.

So to add to nothing new on race day, add nothing you haven't used in 6 months..... I considered pulling it out for the tune up ride yesterday and just went with the road helmet . Lesson learned

my first tri every season i have to revisit several old lessons. t1 is never as crisp. something inevitably goes wrong.

one year my "a" race was the first race of the season and i botched that one pretty badly.

good reminder to go over all of the equipment before race day.

Dog training techniques have surprising parallels to triathlon training and race preparation. All the lessons I THOUGHT were for my dogs started seeming very applicable to me! Here's what I learned.

Running does not cause injury. Poor running form does. Running is more enjoyable, and safer if you know what you’re doing. And yes, even old dogs can learn new tricks.
