Subject: 50 days for first Sprint
Morning, Ive signed up for my first sprint on August 17. Im currently swimming twice a week with a coach, running a little under 5K right after swimming
and not really cycling yet, only on the spinning bike once a week. My plan is to start FULL on July. would that be enough training time?

Im not planing my first tri for any record, I just want to have fun and enjoy it as much as I can.

Im I doing it wrong?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, comments or flaming

I am doing my first sprint on august 1st.. I have seen training plans on active.com.. That says you can train in as little as 5 hours a week.. I am starting my training this week I too am just looking to finish, while still enjoying it to see if I plan on continuing.. So you and I are in same boat... I am nervous and I know very little about tri's other than what I have read.. I am runner so I feel I can handle the 5K as long as I am upright after the swim and bike portion..

Good Luck.

As long as your swimming is coming along well you should be okay. Once you start biking, practice doing some running after the bike as it can be a strange feeling. Even running just a half mile after biking can be really helpful.

That's not a lot of time, but it's definitely enough time to get some biking in. You'll be just fine if your goal is to finish. My suggestion is get (at minimum) 3 rides in a week.

Can you start biking outside right away?

Make sure at least one of the rides is a longer ride. Each week for about 5-6 weeks, extend your long ride so that you are building up stress and endurance on your legs and then taper your last week or two.

On your other rides, bike hard. I would ride for at least 60 min on your non long rides. Throw in some intervals.

Overall get your legs used to riding in the few weeks you have. 4 or 5 rides a week is better, since you're starting fresh, but 3 is ok if you must.

Also, try to get in a 3rd run each week if possible.

Enjoy the process. I really love biking, and I like working on swim technique, so it makes training fun. After your first tri, you'll probably be addicted.

Let us know how it goes.

This past spring I realized a few of us were heading in the wrong direction physically. We were getting together for poker games and kids’ birthdays, but that was it.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

Some would say there are easier ways to get in shape, and they are probably right. My first worry was being able to squeeze into a wetsuit by race day.
