HITS Triathlon Series

Precipitation
Total Time = 2h 27m 47s
Overall Rank = 8/77
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 1/8
Pre-race routine:

Since this was my first race in almost 2 years (took last year off due to projects and injury) I had to get back into my race routine. Woke up at 4, had my typical pre-race meal (bagel w/ PB) and some coffee. Got up to Hague and it was raining. Tried to setup my transition area as best as possible giving the conditions.
Event warmup:

Tried to stay dry and warm to start and shake off some pre race chitters. About 1/2 hour before the race, I got into my wetsuit which kept me warm. Right before we launched I got a quick swim in.
Swim
  • 26m 59s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 48s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not bad was a little choppy when we headed in one direction but I was able to quickly adjust and get into a comfortable rhythm. I focused most of my training on the bike and run and the swim was comparable to previous events.
What would you do differently?:

Might try drafting a little more.
Transition 1
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

It was raining so it made things a little bit harder. It was nice to have strippers for the wetsuits. Those guys were fast.
What would you do differently?:

Getting back into racing will help me
Bike
  • 1h 10m 41s
  • 40 kms
  • 33.95 km/hr
Comments:

This was my first time racing. The first lap was okay, started off at a decent pace and continued to build as I got more comfortable. The second lap the rain started to really come down. By then, I felt real good and pushed myself a little harder.
What would you do differently?:

Not much giving the conditions
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

It was raining good so I didn't real push too hard. Took my time to get what I needed.
What would you do differently?:

Not much with the rain
Run
  • 46m 48s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 41s  min/km
Comments:

I'm not a super fast runner like some of the other folks. I continue to work on this and have seen some improvements.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I was happy with my time.
Post race
Warm down:

After playing in the puddles at the finish line. I grabbed something to drink. Very quickly I got cold and needed to change. Got into the truck to warm up before the awards ceremony.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The rain.

Event comments:

I really like the folks at HITS. They put on a good race at a fair price. They put a lot of effort into making the athletes of all abilities feel like rock stars. Also the volunteers were awesome, especially having to be out in the rain.
