Pre-race routine:

Left work early and got there in plenty of time. Stopped in the bathroom on the way to the start/end site. Wasn't quite sure that I was in the right place because I got there before the check-in was set up. The flag said "Finish" and I couldn't see the "Start" flag so Alex and I wandered around for a bit. Turns out there wasn't a "Start" flag because we finished at the starting line.
Event warmup:

Dynamic stretches, a little jogging, hanging out under the picnic shelter to stay dry as long as possible, and petting our dog, Pippin, and the other dogs who were there. Pippin graciously volunteered to sample a dog treat being sold by one of the race sponsors. He found the treat to be acceptable and was willing to sample more if he had to. Unfortunately, she wasn't handing out any more free samples, even to reward him for his very photogenic poses for her website.

Comments:

Fourth out of 5 women.

Time/distance came from my Garmin and time/distance are approximate. It was being wonky so it didn't accurately reflect either. Official time was 25:38 with an average 9:26 mi., but I don't know the actual distance. The course was shortened due to all the recent rains, which made the planned route impossible (rain+clay soil=10 lb. shoes!!). I don't want to do the math, so Garmin results it is.

This race went much better than the last one. Due to the knee problems I've been having, I didn't want to push too hard for this race. I wore a knee strap thingie and did some 5/1 run/walk intervals. My knee didn't bother me at all. The water crossings were a blast!! For each one, the water was knee-deep with a muddy bottom and probably 5 strides across. Some people (including the top woman on the 1st one) took them slow. Not me. I was careful not to slip getting in, but once I was in, I splashed on through and was out in no time. The SmartWool socks were a great choice. My feet didn't get cold and I had no problems with chafing at all.

I started out yoyoing with another woman due to the walk intervals. I finally caught and passed her the 2nd time around the ball fields. After the 2nd water crossing, I picked up the pace a lot and was closing fast on the woman in 3rd. She beat me by 10 yards and gave me a high five at the finish. If we'd gone much longer, I would have caught her and she told me that. She's one of the women who runs at my level in this series and has beaten me 2 of the 3 races I've done. She's a good rabbit
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Squelched around in my wet shoes for a bit, put on a jacket, ate some Noosa yogurt (they're a sponsor now!!), and drank some Skratch. Then watched awards and chatted with a few people. The 3rd place prize was organic dog treats (the woman I beat makes them) and since the 3rd place woman doesn't have a dog, she gave them to me. Pippin highly approved!! Just as we left, the rain stopped, the sun came out, and there was another pretty rainbow. That's 3 races and 3 rainbows so far.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of run training due to knee issues.

Event comments:

I really enjoy this series. It's small, the organizer is great, and the venues are interesting. I'm glad I've signed up for the whole series, especially because they coincide nicely with my 3 tris. Sadly, there wasn't a food truck this week, probably because we're such a small group. The Noosa really hit the spot, though, and mostly made up for the lack.
