Subject: Resources for getting faster on the bike
I have been doing tri for 5 years and have competed in 20+ races including an IM. During that time - I've been a solid back of the packer. But in the last couple of weeks, I've been experimenting with my cadence and by increasing it, I've seen a 15% increase in speed. This leads me to believe that if I improve my technique and let's be honest - lose a little weight), I can continue to improve.

Question - What's the best source of info on biking approaches and techniques?

Thanks!

I can't say i've got scientific results yet, but it seems when I mix up my training and ride my road bike for one workout of the week it helps me and I feel stronger my next workout or race on the tri bike. My race this past weekend I felt much stronger on the tri bike. I can't remember getting the same results by just increasing the miles on my tri bike alone. No clue why but I'm going to experiment a bit more.

Some of the real experienced guys tell me about power meters, but that's a lot of money.

I do train religiously with a heart rate monitor.

Yes, I've worked on increasing my cadence as well. yes it helps to find my sweet spot at a higher candence. . i wish it were that simple. I think the course and knowing a bit more on how you might shift plan your gears helps too. At least it helps me mentally.

Ride lots, mostly hard, sometime easy.

Beyond that, occasionally force yourself to ride a gear or two harder than feels right. At other times, a gear or two easier than feels right. Over time, you will settle in on the cadence that works for you in different situations.
