Subject: Looking for input on choosing my first 70.3 race
Hi, I need some help picking a 70.3 race for Oct/Sept this year. I'm signed up for a local 70.3 but just received an email that told us they're making the swim/bike cut off time even stricter than previously planned. I honestly don't think I can make the new cut off (it would have been close before) and would prefer not to have a 90% chance of a DNF on my first 70.3. I'm decent on the swim and run but am a slower cyclist.

That said, I can get a full refund and I'd like to apply it towards a new race. Given I'm also training for IMAZ 2015, the new race would have to be in Sept/Oct and somewhat close to Arizona.

My choices at this point are Lake Tahoe, Santa Cruz or Silverman but I don't know much about any of these except that Tahoe and Silverman would have more elevation on the bike and Tahoe could potentially be cold.

Any thoughts, suggestions, help? I have to choose a race by the end of this week. Thanks!

Looks like Santa Cruz will be the flattest bike course of the 3 you mentioned.

Formally Big Kahuna, here is what the description was:

"Bike Info

The Bike Segment is a 56-mile scenic tour of the California coastline beginning at Depot Park and across the West Cliff Bridge. The course winds its way through the surrounding West side neighborhoods, then north on Hwy. 1 to the turnaround at Pigeon Point Lighthouse and returning back the same route to the Depot Park transition zone.

Elevation
The bike course is a scenic tour of the California coastline consisting of mostly flat terrain through the Santa Cruz neighborhoods and rolling hills along HWY. 1. There are no significant climbs on the course but there is the potential for strong headwinds when traveling north."

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.

I started riding this spring with the Carnac shoes on Look pedals (with plenty of float). About five minutes into a ride I get sharp pain on the outer edge of my feet, just behind the pedal.

A bad race left me smoldering, but time and a gentle breeze ignited my passion to race again.
