This year I did not swim. I was in Bali for just under a week before the race and had diarrhoea in that time. We had been told by surfer friends that the water was particularly bad lately and there were dozens (or more) cases of people getting sick from swimming off Kuta. Hopefully the situation will be OK next year.

I think you made the right call to NOT swim.  Hopefully next year the water will be better & you won't have the runs!
