Subject: Would it be worth it to try a Sprint with my current training?
I ran a full marathon in March. I kept running a lot for 3 months after that and then pulled a hamstring badly. I have rediscovered triathalon training as a means to rehab it. My injury is healed although my runs are much slower than before the injury. Still, I can run slowly without any pain. I have really enjoyed the triathalon training- and am thinking of trying to sign up for a Sprint. I did a Sprint triathalon 6 years ago and had a blast, (although it was a pool swim, not open water.) With my current level of training (listed below), do you guys think I will be able to complete it? Last weeks training looked like this:

Monday - 1000 yard swim followed by a 30 minute bike (8 miles maybe?)
Tuesday - 4 mile run
Wedesnday - 7 mile bike
Thursday - 2000 yd swim
Friday - 30 minute bike followed by 3 mile run
Saturday - 20 mile bike ride (completed in about 75- 80 minutes)
Sunday - 6 mile run

So, if I signed up for a triathalon in September, would I be ready, even if I am on vacation for a week in August and can't work out that much? When I get back from vacation I plan to continue training and hopefully add yards and miles too it as I feel able. Besides practicing transitions, any other tips for a newbie, particularly the OWS?

Yes.  You can definitely finish, gain some experience, and have a good time.  I say go for it!

You'll  be fine.......you'll finish about in the middle of the pack at worst.

That's about where I was training-wise at my first sprint, so definitely - yes! Depending on the local competition, your bike, swim, run speed you'll probably do fine performance & age-group wise. The "break" in August might actually be beneficial to help some of your muscles recover.

One think I might caution you however: Sprint triathlons are addictive, so you might now want to stop doing them!!! enjoy!!!

Yup! Regarding OWS, get at least a couple OWS practices in with some company. Warm up well in that wetsuit (if applicable).

Some OWS practice tips:

• Fast start (100 yards?) then cruise into race pace
• Get bumped by swimmers and bump them anyway you can think of while swimming
• Learn to draft from behind someone and from the side (ideally someone slightly faster than you)
• Get wetsuit unzipped and down to your waist while exiting the water and running into T1 (if applicable)

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I will look at my family's schedule and see what we can arrange in September. And thanks for the OWS tips. I have a local lake to practice in but where I live is rural and not many people are into exercise of any kind. I'll probably have to have DH accompany me on the OWS practice. I am hoping to find a race that doesn't need a wetsuit. I have never swam with one and don't want to spend a lot of money on one until I am sure I am going to pursue this long term. I wouldn't even know what to look for. It is very hot here late into the fall so we'll see if it is necessary.

My right knee has a pain in the front, just below the kneecap. I walked 24 miles of IM Louisville. No pain while walking but it started immediately when trying to run.

I'm not quite half way into my IM training. I just raced a sprint and on Monday I woke up and felt like I'd been drugged! Not sore, just incredibly fatigued.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.
