Swim
  • 1h 22m
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

I swam one loop Friday before and took my time. 36 Minutes. This was brutal contact. I was boxed in around 15 swimmers. I needed to swim about 30 yards to the right or left to pass. I gave up on second loop and just stayed on someones heals and took my time. Still got beat up. Disappointed with swim time but came out of the water fresh.
What would you do differently?:

Seed myself in a faster swim group.
Transition 1
  • 11m 48s
Comments:

Took my time.
Bike
  • 6h 29m
  • 112 miles
  • 17.28 mile/hr
Comments:

first loop took it easy. it was cloudy and cool. Finished around 2:55. Second loop around mile 75 the sun came out. My Garmin had the temp as 88 degrees. I was done. I just melted. I didn't bring salt tabs with me, The weather was forecast as rain all day and cool. My stomach turned for the worst and my nutrition suffered.
What would you do differently?:

Bring salt tabs no matter what
Transition 2
  • 14m 31s
Comments:

waited for my stomach to settle before running out. Drank some water was dehydrated bad.
What would you do differently?:

Bring salt tabs
Run
  • 5h 19m 1s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 12m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I puked 3 x on the run. Could not keep anything down. Did a slow trot. Mentally draining to see everyone walking the 2nd mile into a marathon. Carnage was everywhere. I saw a dozen people puking which made me nauseous.
Post race
Warm down:

waited for my wife who crossed 1 hour after me.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Dehydration, salt pills

Event comments:

I thought the race itself was great. I felt like a professional athlete. I will be back in 2017. I want to do something different next year, Maybe something in Canada

Way to get it done even when things get unpleasant! That pesky weather can do a number on you.  Great job Ironman!

I definitely recommend Ironman Mont Tremblant next year! All of them here in Canada are good though!

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.

I have Bontrager Race Lite wheels. I was looking into renting Zipp 303's or 404's for race day for Ironman Lake Placid. What time will I save?

I am running Boston in April and Ironman Lake Placid is in July. I have been told that it is ambitious to think about doing an IM so close to a marathon due to the recovery time. Any suggestions?

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

If you are calm while everyone around you is losing it, you probably don’t know what the hell is going on.
