Extreme Veteran 1332 | Subject: RE: Aero helmet options I've had both the Giro and the LG. LG seemed to perform better, and wasn't as deafening either. No issues with heat so far with the built in vent. Are you able to try them on to see how it conforms to you minimizing gap etc.? |

Thanks, There is a company called AlphaMantis that does aero testing in Velodromes around the world. LA and Milton Ont are the two closest in North America They test hundreds of athletes including Pro tour riders and pro triathletes. What they will tell you is helmets are very individualized. What works best for me may be worst for you. Your position, your body shape and how air flows around and through you makes a difference But in all the testing they have have done, two helmets stand out as testing fast a lot of the time. The Giro A2 and the LG P09. Their conclusion is that to know for sure your must test but if you can't test, the A2 (of that list) is your safest bet Lots of stuff on ST on this if you are looking. |

Champion 7036 Sarasota, FL | Subject: RE: Aero helmet options I've had my Giro Advantage 2 for about three years and like it. The ear flaps make it a bit of a challenge to put on compared to a conventional helmet, but it's not a big deal with a little practice. Having your ears covered also muffles and distorts sound a bit which takes some getting used to. Usually not a big deal during a race, but you need use some caution on training rides until you get used to it. I've read comments about it being hot due to the reduced number of cooling vents versus a road helmet, but I live in FL and have not experienced that being a problem. Mark |

436 | Subject: RE: Aero helmet options Not trying to add more confusion to your shopping list but I just bought the Lazer Tardiz. My budget was similar to yours and so far I've been very happy with it. I'm sure whatever you go with will make you very happy. |

Regular 585 Pueblo, Colorado | Subject: RE: Aero helmet options I picked up a used Giro Advantage 2 on ebay for about $40 and used that for a couple of seasons. Great helmet and had no issues with added heat. I upgraded to a new attack shield for about $199 (a bit above your budget) and I love it. The shield means I don't have to fuss with glasses (although you could wear prescription glasses underneath). It's also versatile enough to be an everyday helmet. I opted for the bright yellow to add visibility. |

Master 2855 Kailua, Hawaii | Subject: RE: Aero helmet options I've had 2 of the Giro Advantage 2 helmets. Decent aero helmet but one nit, the part that covers the sides/ears tends to crack. Other than that it works and never felt too hot in it. |

I think the OP wants a race helmet, in which case the A2 is a great choice. As mentioned, it tests fairly well on a lot of ppl, and it's cheap. It's my helmet of choice to race in. |

Member 1004 | Subject: RE: Aero helmet options I have a Giro Air Attack. It's comfortable, cool, has the air shield and looks good. I don't think it's as fast as the three you listed though. |

Master 1770 Bedford, MA | Subject: RE: Aero helmet options Had a Giro A2 several years ago and crashed in a race. Replacement was a Lazer Tardiz, but I always felt that I should have just stuck with the Giro. This season I got a new A2 for around $90 and couldn't be happier. There just seemed a ton of space around the ears on the Tardiz and it didn't fit nearly as snuggly against my back as the A2. I have a Specialized Evade that I do training rides in. If I qualify for Kona that would probably be my hot weather race helmet. |
