Anyone doing Steelhead this weekend? I'm so excited as it is my first 70.3.

Yes, should be a good day. Weather predicted to be in low 80's, light winds. Water temps are cool but not frigid. Hope you have a good race!

Thanks. Looking perfect for racing. Are you racing? I see you are from St. Joe. I live in South Haven so it is like a home town race.

Yes to both, I live just south of town and I am racing, my third Steelhead. I think you'll like the race, Ironman really does a good job and things really go smooth. A bike tip, be careful both times when you cross M-140, both are not too smooth and people lose a lot of water bottles and other gear there. Have you trained on the course at all? I love riding on M-63/Blue Star, I wish more of the course would stay on there instead of branching off east.

I'm looking forward to it. Yes I train m-63 usually twice week between St. Joe and South Haven. I usually ride with a few other guys. Ran a portion of the run first time this week.

I am not racing but will be down there cheering on teammates. Our plan is to get there for the swim start then go find somewhere to swim and get a long run in before people start coming in off the bike. This will be the first time I've been to an IM branded event and I'm looking forward to it.

How did it go for everyone? It seemed like really great conditions today. I bet that was the best the swim has been in years.

It was my first 70.3 and I had a great day. Was hoping to break 7 hours and crushed that with a 6:34:30. Couldn't have asked for better conditions - warm flat lake, no wind, overcast all day. I've heard the swim course was roughly 1/10th of a mile too long (first year they did it as a loop rather than a parallel-to-shore swim). I also heard there were a record number of athletes this year, something like 2500? I would love to know for sure. I know I came 68th in my AG but can't find anywhere how many were in my AG overall.

Fantastic. Well done. Looks like 2499 total. You can use the filters on Ironman.com to check out the various age group results too:

I agree. Lake was perfect but I heard a bit long. Bike was nice but a bit congested at times as riders were staying left. Run was great but the hills were tough. Volunteers, course nutrition was very good also. Can't wait to sign up for next year.

Perfect day for a race, I don't think the weather could have been one bit better. No wind on that bike was an absolute dream! PR'd by 20 minutes so I was pretty happy with the day. The swim did feel a bit long, I thought my time was about a few minutes away from where it should've been. Still had a blast though. Hope everyone did well.

The swim was long.

The bike was fine except for the first 15 miles. That one road was a gigantic POS.

I was in the 2nd to last wave, so I was highly frustrated on the bike. So many novice riders riding to the left when they should be riding on the right. I stopped being nice about asking people to move over after mile 20. I was just annoyed by that point. I saw a ton pass over the centerline just to go around riders blocking.

I'm looking to do my first (or maybe second) Half at Steelhead. Debating on the Clyd/Athena at Grand Rapids at this time.

Not racing it this year, but you will love it! I raced it back in 2012 and they canceled the swim due to the waves capsizing some of the life boats. But it sounds like your weather should be great! Smile!!!!
