Pre-race routine:

Went home to change and pick up Pippin, then drove to the park.
Event warmup:

Jogged around a bit, did some dynamic stretches, tried to stay cool. Used the bathroom, which smelled HORRENDOUS!!

Comments:

Started out great, blew up at mi. 2.25, walked a bunch, ran at the end and nearly threw up. 91* when the race started. Wore my new shrug. It felt great at first when it was completely wet in ice cold water. Even though I had a big water bottle and kept dumping it on myself, I couldn't keep it wet enough to make it worthwhile. Not knowing the course, I went out too fast, which then bit me when I got to the single track.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe wet my shirt and bra before the start of the race to help keep myself cool? It was so hot that it was hard to stay cool no matter what I did.

Also, went out too fast because the course was easy at the beginning. When I hit the harder stuff, my HR hit the blow-up point and I couldn't keep running. Once that happens, I'm done for.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around chatting with other racers I've gotten to know, drank my Skratch, got my medal and dog treats for finishing 3rd(!!!), then headed home. I was feeling pretty nauseated so I didn't feel like hanging around too long.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat.

Event comments:

3rd woman out of 5, so I got bling and a bag of gourmet dog treats. The course was beautiful but it was too hot to really enjoy it. At least the woman who finished 1st (and has for most of the series) said she started struggling the same place I did. Of course, she finished 15 min. ahead of me, but still...

Great job in spite of the blow up. And congrats on the podium!!!!!

This series sounds like so much fun (maybe minus the running in the heat of the day stuff)

3rd OA and dog treats, YAY!!!  Wow, yeah, the heat has a way of slowing everyone down, as you learned from the 1st place lady.  Nice work out there!
