Just curious if anyone here has laced their own PowerTap hub? I've watched a couple of YouTube videos and it's really a no-brainer. I could build up a wheel myself and have it trued for $10-$15 at my LBS vs. the $70-$100+ it would cost to have the wheel built by someone else.

Seem like DT Swiss and Mavic Open Road rims are bullet proof and a popular choice for a PT G3 hub. It would be easy enough to slap on a disc cover on race day.

Lastly, can someone comment on 26, 28 or 32 hole hubs? I'm 6' tall, 190 lbs, riding a Cervelo P2.

Thanks everyone!

I'm not sure your LBS would consider that a simple truing job - have you ran the idea past them?
The cost difference may be less than you think...

As far as spoke count goes... I train and race on 20 spoke rear rims w/ PTs. I'm 5'10" and anywhere between 165 and 185 lbs.
So, you should be fine with 26, 28, or 32 spokes.

Yeah good idea, never thought of just asking my LBS about trueing a homebuilt wheel. They may see things a little different. :D

Thanks RT!

Keep in mind that spoke tension is crucial to the overall build quality. It's not only about getting the wheel round and true…

Quite frankly, as a first build, I would NOT recommend a PT hub. They are sensitive to even tension to properly measure the torque (hence 2x on both drive and non-drive side).

Yesterday I ran 10 miles. At mile 7 it started feeling sore. At mile 9.5 I got a shooting pain and walked the last 1/2 mile. I have a half Ironman to do in a week and a half. What are my chances?
