Pre-race routine:

I Doubled and this is a few days later, so forgive me.
Race starts HOURS after I would normally go so that I can avoid any weather. Therefore it was HOT. The 92 was at the Colo Springs Airport, but Median times were the slowest in at least 6 years. Most years are in the 4:23, 4:26 range, this year was 4:42 so most folks suffered from the heat in the W.s and were slower.

Event warmup:

Eased to Start, used Restroom, back to start, got toward back for my Wave Corral and found buddies from KS,

Comments:

I took a chance and was 4:48 Pace through Barr Camp. But was at 5:03 Pace by A-Frame and though I pushed I did know I was Doubling the next day, so I slowed from there. 5:07 Pace at 2 to go, and eased it in from there.
My buddies from Kansas found me in the Van line and I went to them and got down quickly.

What would you do differently?:

Oh it wouldn't be a race if I didn't "Go for it" a lil. And I could say that if I had backed off I could have gone under 5Hours easily- because I did it in Training more than once carrying all my own Water. But it was probably just right that I tried, got handed my head... and so did a LOT/Most other folks. Some of it was the heat in the early going, but I'm going to say most of it was my own hutzpah early and come-uppance late.
Sure is HARD to be on the short end when the Altitude hits. But so it goes.

Post race
Warm down:

Had Go Juice in after bag and drank it right away on the way down- Wow that was great, should always do this!

Event comments:

This is the hardest Half Marathon in the world.
You think your strength is in your msucles? Wait until you feel the death grip of Altitude and you'll know your strength is in Oxygen Delivery to those Muscles. At about 12,500ft that whole "Will to Live" thing, it becomes SO over-rated.
Make it to the 14,115ft Summit and wear yourself some pride... you know, after you get back down to about 7,000ft and can have Pride again.
Very organized, well supported, and loved/hated by all who attempt it.
Come and get some!
